Wow, great list! Bunch of here I've not seen no heard of! Love Ginger Snaps, it's so brilliant and so Canadian.

The Changeling is one of the scariest films I've even seen. So much so that I actually won't likely re-watch it because it's just too scary!

My childhood babysitter was in the Gate. I think she may have been killed in it. Dunno, never saw it.

On the 'Snaps sequels, I thing the first sequel is a dynamite movie that amps up the energy and hits some raw new places. The third one not so much, it looked good enough and had some interesting character actors, but really, fell flat for me. It felt like the franchise had run out of juice when they had to go 'into the past' to continue the story.

Oh, and I think you meant "A Christmas Story", not "A Christmas Tale" in the "Deathdream" write-up. Unless of course Bob Clark did a Christmas movie with a dysfunctional, estranged and mentally ill family set in 1940s middle America...B-)

"The Changeling" is terrific. A spooky ghost story that ratchets up the tension. You may never look at a red bouncy ball the same way again.

"Ginger Snaps" is one of those rare films that really does work on many different levels and occasionally at the same time. Very funny, good scares, superior special effects and it's all wrapped in tasty metaphor...I quite liked the two sequels as well - each one taking a bit of a different path.

And "The Brood" is a helluva interesting one...It works on you slowly, delivers some creepiness and then has that reveal near the end which, well, let's just say I won't forget it anytime soon.

I was never a fan of "Black Christmas" - I understand its early link in the slasher genre, so I guess it deserves credit for inspiring others, but it was terribly uneven. "Death Dream" is one I haven't tracked down yet, though I've been curious. It's in my zip.ca list.

I just watched "Eyes Of Laura Mars" last night and I like your comparison to giallos. It's not quite as technicolor as the Italian films, but it mixes the stabbings with the trashy photo shoot scenes in equal number. I thought it could have handled the final scene much better and drawn it out from her point of view, but it was still an good 70s horror/thriller. And it has Faye Dunaway.
