Looks like my Joseph Gordon Levit stock is about to go up again. If this trailer is any indication, there’s a real roller coaster ride of an idea floating in the heads of directors Scott McGehee and David Siegelwas.
Sure it looks like another version of Sliding Doors (starring Gwynneth Paltrow), but this appears to have a lot more action/adventure in it than just a simple drama piece. The good news is that it looks like this movie will have a fair amount of that in too however.
Synopsis:
A young couple, in love and facing a life-changing decision, find one seemingly ordinary July 4th cleaved in two by the flip of a coin on the Brooklyn Bridge.
So after the flip of the coin we get to see the two possible outcomes of their decision. To be honest, it doesn’t sound amazing, but I’m still aboard the JG-L express so I’ll definitely be in line for this one when it arrives at the local cinema.

This film is not good. I caught it two TIFFs ago, and it was the worst film I saw at that year’s festival. high concept with nothing holding it together. waste of time.
I thought it was Rot that hated this. Anyway, I like the trailer. JGL does very little wrong when it comes to his lead roles. Two movies in one: one part action thriller, one part relationship drama. Interesting idea, at least.
Trailer has potential but between Rot’s reaction and the fact that this has been sitting for 2 years, I’m not holding my breath.
Ha! To anyone living in New York today, this trailer is one of those great inside jokes. A skit for the times.
Changing apartments (not suggesting these characters apartment hunting) and deciding between Manhattan or Brooklyn really can change your life. They are different breeds, the city folk and BK folk. Looks like one of those flicks that needs to get over the initial concept.
love JGL however, still waiting for a performance that beats ‘Brick’
Laura, have you watched Mysterious Skin?
I had heard a few mixed thoughts on it. Still haven’t seen it. Didn’t realize Elisabeth Shue is in it too, will get it higher on my list!
My problem is that it feels like a short film concept, something that could have easily been condensed to 10-15 mins. It’s very well-acted. Both leads are a joy to watch on the screen and their interactions (largely improvised, I think I read) were very honest.
It just didn’t really go anywhere or do anything new. Then again, maybe that’s fine. If one were to edit it and watch them separately, I think they could be interesting enough, albeit nothing new. It seemed like an experiment, and while not a great movie, I still came out liking it, despite the glaring problems.
I really like JG-L but I’ve become more and more aware about how weird he talks, especially when talking in his own voice. If he stays famous, eventually we’re going to have another Christopher Walken level funny voice on our hands, mark my words.
Watched this tonight. Holy crap is this a waste of time. Which is really too bad I like the cast and the concept is intriguing. Also, the first half hour or 45 minutes was fairly fun. It set up a good thriller sequence and then turned itself into uninteresting drama crap that sort of went nowhere for 30 minutes or so. The end was ludicrous and boring.
One of the most disappointing watches of the year. Nothing to hate here, just nothing to like.
this was the worst film I caught at TIFF that year
