We’ve talked about Black Dynamite so much, I’m starting to think October 16th can’t come soon enough.
Scott Sanders’ film about an African-American badass brother who saves kids from smack addiction by putting away bad dudes while also managing to kick kung-fu ass and making love to the ladies…this appears to have everything any good Blaxploitation film should and according to Kurt, it marries it all beautifully.
I’m not a huge fan of the genre, mostly because I haven’t seen a lot of good ones, but Black Dynamite is certainly selling itself highly and if previous reception is any indication, we’re in for a treat.
New trailer is tucked under the seat!

Hmmm – link to Kurt’s thoughts doesn’t seem to quite work.
Saw this earlier in the year where it won the audience award at SIFF – so the hype is not completely undeserved. I’d seen it early in the day at a press screening and enjoyed it, but not quite as much as I’d hoped (even then the buzz was strong with this one). I’m pretty sure the screening that put it over the top was a midnight one. Clearly a film that benefits from that sort of late night weekend screening, preferably with a crowd. So choose your viewing time accordingly.
Definitely way better than some of the other attempts in the last few years, toughest thing with these modern versions is it’s nearly impossible to top the originals.
Oh – and keep your eyes out for random boom mikes and the actor’s reactions…

“I am smiling.”
Good god, this looks great – and ridiculously authentic.
