the ‘girl-in-suit’ is CG, by C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, (the ‘young’ version is by Buf Compagnie in France).

Cube is awesome.
I really enjoyed Cypher.
And Splice sounds incredible.

Natali is quickly becoming one of my favourite directors.
(And I just now discovered ‘Nothing’ by the director.. sweet! )

All on Natali’s films have a hit/miss factor but for me, they mostly work. And CUBE is a great little film.

Post Apocalyptic: LAST NIGHT (and Canadian Co-Production BLINDNESS)

Doofus Comedy: STRANGE BREW, FUBAR, WEIRDSVILLE

Vampire: BLOOD & DONUTS, or LA PEAU BLANCHE

Zombie: FIDO, or PONTYPOOL

Science Fiction Puzzlebox: CUBE, also CYPHER

Slasher: BLACK CHRISTMAS (although there are literally dozens of these in the early 1980s due to some Canadian Tax Shelter loophole)

Buddy Cop Movie: BON COP BAD COP

Sex Farce: YOUNG PEOPLE FUCKING

Rockumentary: HARD CORE LOGO

Tabloid/Media: STARDOM

Urban Malaise Comedy: WAYDOWNTOWN, EVERYTHINGS GONE GREEN

Coming of Age: C.R.A.Z.Y.

Quirky Dramedy: SEDUCING DR. LEWIS

I believe my feelings on Pontypool are a matter of record. Ginersnaps is another good example of a perfectly good film that gets elevated to something it’s not.

Cube is a terrible film too. Aww sssnap.

And I’m throwing in Behind the Mask as a Canadian film too, just because. It seems like the type of things Canadians would like.

I sure as heck hope-so. It was hard to gauge audience reaction (sci-fi often has a way of doing that), and I have no idea how that particular ‘focus group’ session (yes this screening was one of those ‘blind-entry’ sort of things where you fill out a questionnaire.

(Those forms are simply soul-sucking to read, they are like a calling card for ‘how can you butcher my movie’)

The good news, is that SPLICE is a very, very good movie.
