It’s a commercial for IKEA, so I get that there has to be an explanation at the end. But the narration at the end was unneeded. We get what the short is trying to do without having someone shout it at us. Still, I really like this clip. It shows us how easy it is to toy with our emotions. Remember Cast Away? I never thought the day would come when I would get misty over a god damn volleyball; but it happened and now it’s a lamp.

I’ve seen this before – it’s a few years old no? Didn’t realize it was Jonze though now that you bring it up it’s so obvious.
Several years old yes, and won a shit load of awards and commendations to boot. And worth revisiting often to see how joyously manipulative a director can be!
Yes I had definitely seen this before, but Marina, I didn’t know it was Jonze either at the time. Thought it was apropos with Wild Things coming out.

Imagine if it were directed by Michael Bay though… wouldn’t be as good.
ZING!
