The Time Traveler’s Wife has been a long time coming. Having finished filming in late 2007, the release date on this has been pushed back time and time again, causing many to worry that the Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana starring sci-fi romance drama was going to be a disaster of a movie. In reality, there were test screenings, reshoots, and recuts of the film, as well as a decision that this should be a late-summer August release rather than Christmas, like originally intended.
Still, many are left worried, especially those that have read the best-selling book. I read the book myself a year and a half ago (I highly recommend it for those who enjoy either stories of time travel or depressing romance) and I’ll be the first to admit that there is so much going on throughout the novel that it will be difficult to appease those that have read it. By the looks of the trailer, my suspicions seem accurate – they’re going to keep the storyline focused just on their love story and it is going to be a little lighter in tone (the book gets pretty depressing at times).
With that said, it looks interesting and they definitely selected the two best people for the roles in McAdams and Bana. I’ll leave my comments at that for now. Watch the trailer and discuss below.

Can’t wait for this movie. LOVED the book and when I finished the last page, I flipped right to the front and read it again.
Not so sure about Bana, but McAdams seems like a perfect fit.
BUT, like you I have serious resertvations. I know they’re going to destroy the novel. There’s just too much in there for all of the nuance to not be lost.
Hmmm. I can’t decide whether I love this trailer or hate it. It feels ridiculously over the top. Notebook Part 2? :S
I’m looking forward to it, but warily because of how great the book was. Thankfully it’s now been three or four years since I read it, so I don’t remember every detail and hopefully won’t be distracted by differences when watching the film.
McAdams looks to be great as Claire; Bana, I don’t know. I like him a lot, but for some reason in this trailer he’s coming across much blander than I think Henry should be. And I don’t think I like the melting away sort of disappearing effect they’re using when he travels. Not sure what I’d do instead, but it seems…off…somehow.
