In 2005, a little indie film that no one saw entitled, Me and You and Everyone We Know was my podcast co-host’s (at the time) DVD pick of the week. I mocked him a little for picking such an obscure title. But then I picked it up it instantly became one of my favorite films of the year. Director and star Miranda July hasn’t really done anything since (according to the IMDb). I guess I hadn’t noticed, but now that I have it saddens me. Where has she been? In a hallway apparently.
In the film (Me and You and Everyone We Know) there is a scene in which July and John Hawkes walk slowly down a sidewalk and use that 200 foot journey as a metaphor for their potential, lifelong relationship that hasn’t happened yet. It’s a signature scene and just one of many to solidify that film as a personal favorite. I stumbled across this little video over at Switchblade Comb in which July takes kind of the same idea and applies it to a rather chatty hallway as a metaphor for a person’s existance. Or something.
Anyway, this video is awesome:

May I be a guest star on your Podcast again? I long for the good ol’ days.

She’s made a few short films, and written a couple of books since the film was released. So its not like she hasn’t been busy.
Yeah I know. I see the hallway. Drawing naked people in the “rear entry” position must be exhausting.
So now you are going to dump on her because she uses a different artistic media then you prefer?
I was being facetious.
I just rented “me, you…” today from the library because I saw John Hawkes on the box and decided to bite on all the film fest logos. Looking forward to watching it.
I remember being so mystified by “Me, You and Everyone we Know” that I actually watched it twice back to back, great quirky film.
Just watched it. Very good.

I can’t believe this blog is not letting me type the signature emoticon of that movie. what gives?
I was able to do it.
I think it has something to do with the carrot symbols and wordpress recognizing it as an html tag.
the most memorable movie quote that i could think of is the one on Forest Gump ”,
