LaBute never reined him in, he let that shot of him diving stay in, he used those hilarious cutaways on the ferry boat, he used footage of a guy in a bear suit hitting a woman, he used those great "Goddammit!" clips on the pier, and that double fake out in the same scene. I just like rot, don't believe you can bank on Herzog to the degree you seem to be doing, that there's no evidence to me to give him the benefit out the doubt, at least not yet. Its as naive as when I first saw the cast list and director of the Stepford Wives and believed it was going to be a musical, and got so excited.
