• Edgar Wright Video Blog

Call me out of the loop if you want to, but I totally forgot that Edgar Wight (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) was working on an adaptation of a comic book entitled “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”. Probably because it stars Michael Cera (getting tired just writing about it).

If you missed our latest cinecast, Matt Gamble, Kurt and I sort of in a round-a-bout kind of way discuss comic book films and the differences between good ones (Persepolis, American Splendor) and bad ones (Incredible Hulk, Iron Man). Despite the Cera connection, I think this one might shape up to be one of the good ones (obviously Wright directing is a big step in the right direction).

Anyway, on to the point of this post. Over at the film’s website, they’ve been doing a weekly video production blog and this week’s installment touched on how to properly adapt a comic book. Do you incorporate exactly what is in the written panel on to the screen or do you improvise a little? So I thought some readers here might be interested in checking it out. Plus I see Toronto’s beloved Bloor Cinema and Sonic Boom record store in one of the exterior shots of this video and since those places hold a bit of a special place in my heart, I felt the need to post them here.

You can check out this specific video below or head over to the movie’s main site and see them all (five in total so far – this being the fifth)

Edgar Wright is 100% awesome. I keep forgetting he’s doing this, and then I see some tidbit, and I get all excited again. Can’t wait to see it.

Has anyone read the comic? I seem to remember people having trouble getting copies of it a few months ago, but I don’t really keep track of the comic world, so I don’t even really know what it’s about.

The comics are just really great harmless nerd/music/video game-logic fun.

You can check out some previews including the full 17 page story they released on free comic book day here:

I can’t believe they’re making a movie of it.. and with such a great director. I looking forward to this so badly.
