• Madeleine Stowe to Make Directorial Debut

Madeleine StoweMedeleine Stowe. We love her but where has she been lately? The last thing I recall seeing her in was Twelve Monkeys and thought she’s appeared in a number of other films over the last few years, nothing stands out. So what what happened? Looks like the actress has been preparing to shift gears.

Production Weekly has news that Stowe will be trying her hand at directing and bringing Unbound Captives to the big screen. If that’s not enough, they also note that Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson have been cast in the film. That’s all well and good but what the heck is this movie all about?

A little reading uncovered an interview Stowe did with Mohican Press in which she describes the project as “a period piece set in mid-nineteenth century Texas. It is a romantic, violent epic based upon a difficult time in history.” The interesting bit here is that the interview dates back to 2005 which means the film has been floating around Hollywood for a while. What really surprises me is that in same interview she mentions that this is the “only thing” she wants to do and lo-and-behold, she’s pretty much been absent from the film world since then.

Truth is, if I’d just seen the cast list I would have been curious about the production but add Stowe to the mix and I’m more than a little interested. Here’s hoping she’s as talented behind the camera as she is in front of it.
