• Screen Shot Quiz #183

I was just about to post today’s quiz and say how no one but Kurt had knew of the movie from yesterday’s quiz. One last check showed me that Shelagh knew the answer, which was The Advocate (Hour of the Pig). I’m done with pig movies for now, although perhaps Kurt and Shelagh might let us know if The Advocate is worth seeing or not. Up until Kurt mentioned it I had never heard of it.

We are continuing on with Period Pieces. I’ll post the answer to today’s quiz tomorrow along with the next quiz.

  1. Ivy says:

    The answer is Perfume!

  2. Shelagh says:

John: The Advocate is definitely worth seeing. Unlike most period pieces it does not attempt to appear neat and clean, but captures the dirt & dinginess of the time. Also a great cast.

“Unlike most period pieces it does not attempt to appear neat and clean, but captures the dirt & dinginess of the time.”

Another film that does this well is “The Libertine”. I didn’t love it but it was pretty filthy. Come to think of it, so was “Quills”.

  4. John Allison says:

I did some researching and I discovered that the North American version which is called The Advocate is 12 minutes shorter than the UK version called Hour of the Pig.

I’ll do some searching and it will be added to my every growing stack of DVDs which will eventually get watched. I can’t decide there being so many good movies a good or bad thing. I’ll never see everything. ;)

  5. Kurt Halfyard says:

I saw one version or another in the rep cinema in the 1990s, and it blew my mind at how darn odd thie film was, particularly the trial of the animal. The fact that Colin Firth and Ian Holm were in it was equally baffling, but it finds its footing in the 2nd half of the film. And for fans of KRULL or WITHOUT A CLUE, Lysette Anthony is in there. Also Nigel Williamson and Donald Pleasence! oi! that is a wacky cast, and the movie is kinda wacky (in a good way) too!

And Monty Python’s The Quest for the holy grail.

“How do you know he is a king?” (beat) “Because he doesn’t have shit all over ‘im”

    ha.

  7. Marina Antunes says:

    Nice call Kurt. Nice call.
