• Popularity Contest: Star Trek vs. Star Wars

Star Trek Scene ItAccording to board game makers at Hasbro, it ‘aint Star Trek.

I had a thought that it might be cool to play a round of Trivial Pursuit on Friday night in preparation for the new Star Trek movie which we’re seeing with 40 of our closest friends on Saturday. I’m digging around the web for information on where to buy “Trivial Pursuit Star Trek edition” (I simply assumed there was one) and I discover that yes, there is one but it’s 9 years old, on VHS, only released in the UK and probably impossible to find. A few minutes later I uncover a listing (thank wikipedia) off all the Trivial Pursuit editions to date and come to find that Star Wars has three (count them: 3) editions: “Star Wars Classic Trilogy Collector’s Edition” (1997), “Star Wars Episode I Edition” (1998) and the “Star Wars Saga 2 DVD Edition” (2005) while Star Trek didn’t even get one US edition (the ST edition that’s kicking around was a UK only release).

Not all hope is lost though. In my endless search I discovered the recently released “Scene It Star Trek Edition” and according to a review I found over at Trek Movie, it’s the best Star Trek trivia game to date (and I’m assuming these guys know their Trek). Amazon has a few different editions which I assume all come with different bonuses but at this point, I’d just like to get my hands on any of them.

I’m still a little bitter at the lack of “Trivial Pursuit” love but happy to see that there’s a fancy new “Scene It” edition kicking around (I love this game. It’s one of the few I can actually win without cheating. This and “Trivial Pursuit 90s Edition”). Now the hard part: finding a copy locally before the weekend.

I once won Star Was Trivial Pursuit in 2 turns. It might be my finest achievement.

Unfortunately, no one will ever play me anymore.

You’ve just described the stand-alone version of SCENE-it. We play everyone against me, where everyone gets a roll to my single roll. I have yet to lose. ;)

Now you two are just showing off.

My claim to fame on SW Trivial Pursuit (any edition): I know how to pick my partner. We always win and I think I’ve answered one question.
