Christopher Nolan’s next film, Inception, already has a lot going for it, as Marina pointed out in her post about it a couple of weeks ago. High-concept sci-fi “set within the architecture of the mind” with a cast that includes Leonardo diCaprio as a CEO-type, Marion Cotillard as his wife, Ellen Page as a grad student working with diCaprio, and Cillian Murphy as…nobody knows, apparently. Details of the film’s plot are being closely guarded, but that already-stellar cast is going to be joined by Joseph Gordon-Levitt as an associate of diCaprio, and Nolan veteran Michael Caine in a small role.
Gordon-Levitt is one of my favorite young actors right now – seems like everything he chooses to be in turns to gold: Brick was incredible, The Lookout was a great little film that flew under too many radars, and his Sundance hit (500) Days of Summer (opening in July) is among my most-anticipated films of the summer. I was already looking forward to Inception, but his presence makes me even more excited about it.
The film currently has a release date in July 2010, so we’ve got a little over a year to wait.

Joseph Gordon Levitt! OMG JGL!!!!!!
I mean… oh, interesting.
He’s also got a short film that was at Sundance called Sparks. Here’s the trailer

Hehe, excited you a bit with that news, huh, Rusty? I can’t tell AT ALL what Sparks is about from that. But part of it is set at Troubadour, which is one of my fave music venues, so I’m intrigued.
I would’ve linked to the “post” that explained it but his site isn’t a real blog so it would just go to the main page at hitrecord.org.
It’s an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story.
His site is really cool, it’s all about the little films he makes in his spare time. And it has a forum now!
that link is totally fucked up.
Fixed the link for you. Thanks for posting it! I didn’t know about his site before.
as I was saying in the Asimov post I wrote yesterday heady sci-fi seems back with a vengeance…
Ridley Scott
Christopher Nolan
David Fincher
James Cameron
Kevin MacDonald
Depending on how audience take to it, this could be the next wave as superhero narratives eventually wane.
What’s Ridley and Fincher doing?
Missed 500 Days at the local film fest because I am an idiot.
Ridley Scott has Forever War and David Fincher has Rendevous with Rama.
interesting. very could cast. could Nolan find his new Joker in Joseph Gordon Levitt, who has often been compared to Heath Ledger in his looks and his acting????
I could totally see that Ralph, and he would also take on that spindly incarnation of the Joker from the comics, from something like The Killing Joke. Although how tall is Joseph, it might look weird if Bale is fighting someone half his size.
i googled it and apparently he is 5’10″ and Christian Bale is 6′ 1/2″
