Duncan Jones, in a very interesting interview with Popular Mechanics, discussed in length some of the inspiration behind his Sam Rockwell starring Moon (our review). Even more interesting, he discussed what his next project is going to be, something that gets my mouth a-waterin’.
It looks like I’m going to be doing another science-fiction film next. I love Blade Runner, it’s one of my favorite films, and I’ve always been really… depressed that there was never – not a sequel, because I don’t think it’s right to make a sequel about Blade Runner, but no one’s really tried to make a film which was set in the same kind of world or had that same kind of field. So that’s what I’m doing, a big-city mystery story that takes place in a future Berlin.
A Blade Runner inspired science fiction mystery film. Awesome. I wonder what his futuristic Berlin will look like. Cyberpunk? Anybody else think that Duncan Jones has a long, prosperous career ahead of him?

Bring it on. Let’s hope Shane Carruth’s next film and Rian Johnson’s LOOPER also rock the sci-fi world by being smart and resisting the ‘slam-bang’ action CGI route favoured by the genre over the past few years.
there aren’t enough good scifi movies out there, so i am all for it. nice.
Sweet! We really need a new director that respects and likes sci-fi and actually wants to do some serious movies in the genre.
