• Screen Shot Quiz #150

Jonas was correct yesterday. The screen shot was from Battle Beyond the Stars. Today I continue with a Sci-Fi theme in honour of the SciFi Channel changing their name to SyFy which for some reason just makes me think of stir fry.

    Screen Shot 150

I’ll post the answer tomorrow along with the next quiz.

  1. Jonas says:

I have no idea what movie this is but it looks incredible!

And is that Enki Bilal art on her clothes?!

  2. Jandy says:

I didn’t realize there was anything honorable in the new SyFy name. :) Everyone I know has been making fun of it since the announcement. We’ll see how it goes. I keep wanting to pronounce it “siffy,” which just makes me think of STDs.

  3. quietearth says:

I’m thinking Brazil… but maybe not.

  4. swarez says:

Brazil was the first thing that popped in my head but no this is clearly much more recent and I’m pretty sure it’s not a US production.
I’m going to the guess that it is Immortel based solely on that comment about the Bilal art on the shirt.

You are all on the right track. I’ll post the answer tomorrow morning if no has it by then. I do own this one but I can’t remember if I actually enjoyed it or not. Oh and I deliberately picked this shot to see if someone would say Brazil. ;)

  5. Jonas says:

I was thinking Brazil first too.. and then Immortel because of the art on the shirt. But I found it unlikely that he would have his art on a characters shirt in his movie. But I guess I might be wrong.

  6. Maurice says:

Oh, I know what it is, only I can’t remember the title.
It’s a French movie, based on an excellent comic. Artwork of the French comic artist can be seen on the shirt of the woman.

Damn my memory at the moment….

  7. Maurice says:

Oh, wait I found it. It’s the movie: Immortel (ad vitam) from 2004. The movie did fail a little bit, but the comics from the author Enki Bilal are amazing.

  8. Marina Antunes says:

Didn’t know there was a comic but definitely interested in checking it out. Love the basic idea and the visuals of the film but agreed – it does falter. I can’t remember for sure but I don’t even think I made it through the entire film.

  9. Jonas says:

Oh there you go, it was Immortel. I guess Mr.Bilal was narcissistic enough to have one of his characters wear his art all over her clothes.

I haven’t watched the movie in years but I remember it being gorgeous and in parts pretty close to the comic.

Everyone should check out the comic though, it’s really strange with ancient Egyptian gods in a futuristic Paris. It’s beautifully drawn. The comic(s) the movie is based on is the Nikopol Trilogy.

  10. John Allison says:

I did a quick scan of the DVD when choosing the shot and I deliberately avoided the Egyptian Gods as they would have been too easy to pick out. While the movie is really nice to look at it does have a somewhat dated look now as CGI really has improved a fair amount. I can’t comment on the story though. I think I’ll have to throw it back in and check it out shortly.

  11. swarez says:

Why did you say we were on the right track when I said it was Immortel?

    I win! I win!
    Suck it haters.

  12. John Allison says:

lol… blame my stupid reading skills. I do find it funny that it is always your comments that I mess up on. I seem to remember that you won the oscar pool last year until we realized that someone else had. ;)
