I had heard of the TV-show Jericho back when it came out. I knew that it was post-Apocalyptic and dealt with the “what-if” scenario of nuclear attacks in the US, something I think about far more than I should. I knew it starred Skeet Ulrich, who is a solid actor that never really did much considering the talent that he had (I think all of the early-Johnny Depp comparisons hurt the guy). I knew that it gained a pretty huge cult following fairly quickly and after the cancellation of the first season, a bunch of loyal fans sent 40,000 pounds of peanuts to CBS offices in protest, which brought it back for a second season before being canceled again. I never watched it while it was on though, mostly because I have major commitment issues and can only watch shows that I can watch on my own time, when I am ready and bored, whether online or through DVD.
Of course, that all changed with the sweetness that is Hulu, and just today – because I am hungover and don’t feel like accomplishing anything and all of the basketball games on TV today are painfully one-sided – I watched the first two episodes of Jericho. If they are any indicator, it is a quality show that I’m going to enjoy. It’ll be a bummer if I really get into it and it ends abruptly, like one of the best damn shows I have ever watched, Deadwood (fun fact: this show stars a Deadwood alum, the awesome Gerald McRaney). Luckily though, recalling shades of the Firely/Serenity deal, they’re looking to provide proper closure to the series with a feature film, something we seem to be seeing more and more of as the years go by (although unfortunately not for Deadwood).
According to executive producer Dan Shotz, “It’s not just wishful thinking. We’ve been developing a feature to hopefully make, because we would love to. I mean, Jericho is so built in a way, especially where we left off season two, to create a feature. So our hope is to launch this comic-book series and then with the development at the same time of the feature, hopefully get that launched as well.”
Cool. This may be the new show I watch when I’m eating my dinner or microwavable pizza or have forty extra minutes to spare at night. Has anybody out there watched this show? What do you think? Am I crazy for starting to watch this show and once again putting off watching Battlestar Galactica, which I have the first two seasons of and never watched?
Sound off in the comments, minions.

Love the show and it has a great fan base.
I’m looking forward to the comics and the news of a possible feature film is fantastic.
I love the show! I am looking forward to the comic book and movie…. Jericho is well worth the wait!
Although I liked Battlestar Galatica and highly recommend it, I loved Jericho. If I had to make a choice I’d say watch Jericho.
Jericho is very addicting and most people watch more than one episode at a time.
Jericho fans are keeping track of the You Tube views of the Jericho episodes, so feel free to help us up the count!

This is the most addictive show I have ever watched. Don’t be surprised if you watch a couple more eps and then you can’t stop. The norm with newbies is they start watching and watch all the episodes within a weekend or a few days. After you see the Season 1 Finale come back and share your thoughts about how you would have felt about the cancellation announcement!
Can’t wait for the comic and the Movie!!
Excellent! I always love to read about new fans of Jericho. Welcome to the fandom and on to the next chapters of the story.
I have never watched Jericho solely because that lead actor, like Robert Pattinson, has “Please Punch Me” face.
This was the most addicting show I have ever watched. It connects with the viewers big time. I think that was brought about the epic fandom outrage and actions to this day to save Jericho.
2009 and we have Season 3 in comic form and Movie being actively developed!
Thanks for the article and update.
Stay with this show. I loved the whole series, but the last five episodes of season 1 are some of the best television I’ve ever seen.
You’re already hooked!
In a way I envy you the fact that you have the chance to watch multiple episodes in one sitting. Even now I watch the repeats on the CW Network and end up watching two more episodes because one is just not enough and you want to know more.
Welcome aboard!
it’s a pretty cool show. i’m not one of the peanut-sending superfans, but it is far better than most stuff on tv. MUCH better than LOST. interesting characters, cool storylines. you made the right choice.
i wonder what massive storyline the Jericho movie will tackle.
“…MUCH better than LOST.”
I fart in your general direction.
have you watched this?
way better.
I watched a few episodes. It was an on par tv series. Not nearly on the level of LOST even at it’s low points.
Jericho is the best series CBS has brought us in years. I love this show and I can’t wait for more Jericho in whatever form I have to get it until we get a season 3. Watch it once and you are addicted to the show. The more you watch the more exciting it get’s.
Nothing Skeet Ulrich has done or will ever do could be considered good by any rational human. Even when he almost beat Greg Kinnear to death, and normally that would elevate any actor in my eyes.
mm… Skeet Ulrich is pretty good. while Scream has become a joke of a movie, he gives a good performance. he is also good in The Newton Boys and from the few episodes of Jericho that i saw, he was pretty dang good.
Great to have another fan! This show is awesome, there’s something addictive about it and you just want more. Welcome to the fight.
I’d just like to take this opportunity to say addictive does not always = good.
is heroin not good, andrew?
Didn’t mean to offend any hard core drug users out there. No no no, heroin is great. I was referring to some TV shows out there that trick you into coming back when in actuality, everything about it is shit.
Clearly Matt, you forget the genius that is Chill Factor?
i liked Chill Factor. lol.
anyway, isn’t that sort of what Lost does? tricks you into coming back? although it isn’t shit, it is actually some quality TV, it still is written and set up to “trick” you back each week. Jericho doesn’t really do that though. it is high quality. well written. i’m surprised you haven’t watched it, andrew. it seems like it woudl be right up your alley.
Hubby and I watched this pretty religiously while it was on during season 1 but never came back to it for season 2. Thinking I may need to revisit it – especially since I’m NOW CAUGHT UP ON LOST.
Is that a new record of some sort? Four season in 4 weeks or so? I’m guessing not – I think Dale did worse with Buffy…
Now caught up on LOST…
Have you dived into the MorePop discussion yet?
Not yet but will check it out this morning!

You mean like you andrew? people keep on replying to you, because they are tricked into an argument, but in all actuallity everything about you is…
Oh yes, I thought Jericho was a quality tv show. there are some parts that I would leave out, mainly Emily, but other than that it was great.
Welcome to Jericho! Keep watching as the last half of season 1 and all of season 2 are amazing. As for Battlestar, like it a lot, but Farscape is still better than Battlestar—just without all the support from SciFi (or SyFy now). Skeet is great, and amazing looking, but honestly, Lennie steals the show. So keep watching…….
When done, then watch Battlestar. And if you can find it, Farscape will change you forever.
I keep hearing great things about Farscape but if I’m not mistaken, it’s not a cheap one to get into. Hard to find and expensive!
I liked Jericho a lot and Skeet was great given the inane script sometimes. He was much better in Miracles, the other TV show he was in with Angus McFadyen. (he didn’t beat up Greg Kinnear in As Good As it Gets — he was in the background).
If Jericho is made into a movie — dump the Dale, Emily and Mary characters and bring back Jonah. Beck and Constantino have to be in it somehow too.
Skeet is way better than the overrated Johnny Dipsh*t–who is like 5 foot 4 in his tall shoes.
whoa… Skeet better than Depp? whoa whoa whoa. yer gonna start a shitstorm, dog.
