Tuesday is a big day this week. Maybe the biggest and best DVD release week ever? Not only are several Oscar nominated films being released today, but also 4 out of the 5 films I personally proclaimed as the films that should’ve been nominated for best picture – including my favorite film of the year, Rachel Getting Married. Plus a few other minor gems you may have missed.
Instead of a long diatribe here about the greatness that is March 10th, 2009 and the serious dent in my pocketbook that accompanies said date, we’ll let the images do the talking. Check this out…
Rachel Getting Married (our review)

Let the Right One In (our review)

Happy-Go-Lucky (our review)

Synecdoche, NY (our review)

Milk (our review)

Cadillac Records

Battle in Seattle (our Cinecast discussion)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (our review)

…and stay tuned for next week:
Elegy (that other [superior in my opinion] Penelope Cruz movie)
Twilight (that other [inferior in my opinion] Vampire movie)
Bolt (that other Oscar-nominated animated movie)

Yay! Even though I hardly buy DVDs anymore (gotta pay the rent and silly stuff like that), I’m excited about this set of DVDs. I’ve been dying to see Happy-Go-Lucky, so I’m renting that stat. Rachel Getting Married is fantastic. And Let the Right One In…great week, indeed.
And on Elegy, you mean the Penelope Cruz movie other than Vicky Cristina Barcelona? I loved VCB, so I guess I’ll have to move Elegy up on my list as well.
Yeah, I’m really excited to watch Elegy again. I hope it is as good as I remember.
I have to watch “Private Idaho” tonight for the movieclub, but if I can find the time I’m gonna watch RGM again too.
Rachel Getting Married extras:
Commentary with actress Rosemarie DeWitt, a second commentary with producer Neda Armian, screenwriter Jenny Lumet and editor Tim Squyres, 2 featurettes (The Wedding Band, A Look Behind the Scenes of Rachel Getting Married), deleted scenes, and a Cast and Crew Q&A at the Jacob Burns Center.
Actually, for me it’s a big day for me (beyond reasons obvious to those who know me) because Disney has finally released its Platinum Edition of Pinocchio, only the greatest animated feature of all time!
