Hell yes. Any of those movies that takes a regular kid and throws him into an adventure was right up my alley when I was that age. Last Starfighter, Neverending Story, Cloak and Dagger, Flight of the Navigator, Space Camp, etc etc. Even the Karate Kid or Stand By Me might fall into this category.

<i>"I think there was very little I fantasized about more as a child than getting taken by space aliens to a galaxy far, far away… although I wanted my space travels to be like Star Wars much more than Star Trek."</i>

Surely you were a fan of THE LAST STARFIGHTER then. eh, Jonathan?

There was a book series in the early 90s that I read in my early childhood called <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Teacher_is_an_Alien" rel="nofollow">My Teacher is an Alien</a> where that very thing happened. There was nothing I wanted more than to be abducted in the night and asked to save the galaxy.

Damn straight. And I also admit that although the psychological/story stuff interests me the most, I love the spaceship action sequences in TNG movies. Here comes my inner nerd: in Generations when they're fighting the Klingon chicks and the Enterprise finally gets them to decloak and the camera zooms in on Riker and he just calmly (but angrily) says, "fire." Oh hell yeah.

wow, looks cheesy......................

but i'd be lying if i didn't say that this was some cheese i wanted on my crackers. this child in me is definitely looking forward to this as silly as it may be. i am a space nut. i dream of this shit, and as a kid used to daydream like some aliens would sweep me off this planet and take me on an intergalactic mission like these.

nerdy, but you all daydreamed about it too.

I watched the Star Trek movies here and there. Never really watched much of the shows. Don't really have a whole lot of knowledge on it. Just sorta indifferent on it all.

This trailer doesn't do much for me personally, although they are <i>definitely</i> targeting a broader audience with it, that much is obvious.

@ I like the idea of the voyages of the Enterprise when it was first created.

Andrew, I didn't watch much of that show but I think that's what it was about.

Also, I did see the borg episode. It wasn't the first encounter, it was some lame ass time travel bullshit.

The Mirror, Mirror episode of Enterprise is awesome! Because it's emulating original Star Trek. Miniskirts, giant lizards, I'm just say there were tribbles cause I don't remember.

It goes Original, Next Generation, and then hair splitting degrees of terribleness.

All the original cast movies are good. 6 is awesome, followed by 2. 3 and 1 are underrated. And Star Trek 5, directed by William Shatner is not very <i>good</i> but I love it.

All the Next Gen movies are lame with First Contact being at least watchable.

One of my friends has, I think, all the seasons of all the series on DVD. She wouldn't get into the convention side of things, though, so I'm not sure where that places her on the Trekkie continuum.

I've meant to get into TNG, but she suggested DS9 first (I think she picked that one based on my being a BSG/Babylon-5/Farscape fan - Andrew'll have to verify if that's a likely recommendation). I watched the first season of DS9 and liked it quite a lot, but then school got in the way and she moved to Scotland, so I haven't finished it yet. (And I still need to finish B5, too...I gotta make sci-fi my priority this summer, I think.)

lol. I know it sounds like it, but I'm really not. Of the original series, I've seen maybe three episodes in full. Never watched ANY episodes of DS9 or Voyager (well, maybe 1 or 2 of Voyager (the Borg episodes)). I'm just a fan of TNG - and only the final 6 seasons or so. I don't think I ever even stuck with Enterprise up through its cancellation.

And I never have, nor would I ever, go to a ST convention.

Never understood the hate for "Enterprise." Yeah the opening song was a failure on a massive scale (which probably had people tuning out immediately), but I like the idea of the voyages of the Enterprise when it was first created. No shields, first encounter with the borg, etc. I thought it was pretty good. And T'Pol was hot.

Oh, and the one where Picard lives an entire lifetime on another planet only to wake up and realize it was all implanted memories. That episode was awesome.

As for TNG movies:
Generations = alright
First Contact = great
Insurrection = shit
Nemesis = alright

God, here we go...

Yes, definitely go with TNG, although the first two seasons are a bit rough (those uniforms! ugh!). Then they switch doctors for season 3, which I didn't like. After that, the episodes get more interesting and the character development is fleshed out a little better. Though the episodes with the kid form Family Ties as Whorf's son are pretty brutal.

My favorite episodes were all the "what if" episodes or unexplainable ones. There's one where the episode starts with the Enterprise explodes. There's one where they all get hooked on a video game. Any episode with "Q" in it is great fun and of course The Borg are futile to resist.

@Jandy - I can't get into the campyness of TOS and the idea behind DS9 was interesting but I found it got boring pretty quick. I seem to be in the minority but I'm a huge Voyager fan (Janeway is *almost* as good a captain in my books as Picard) but if you want to expand, I'd jump into TNG.

And oops, almost forgot entirely about Enterprise. Never even saw one episode of that.

i hate all of the old Star Treks. this looks a little melodramtic but it will find a new audience and should be interesting. the new Spock looks good.

It looks very pretty...I'm suck a sucker for shots of futuristic cities and spaceships. The script doesn't sound quite as great as the visuals look, though.

When I first started playing it, I had to unmute my computer, and for about the first 30 seconds I was trying to figure out why Star Trek had a Bollywood soundtrack. Yeah, iTunes had been playing all night with the computer on mute. D'oh.

And Marina, heh, TOS and DS9 are the only Star Treks I've seen any of. :) Maybe I should expand?

Ugh. I can't get on board with this soapier melodrama action version of Star Trek. It just seems so....generic. At least the stiffness of most of the other Trek properties made it stand out.

The clincher is whether or not Star Trek: Rebooted will be just another genre picture, or whether it will actually have a brain to go with its over-manicured new body, and adrenaline pumping heart.

Looked good.
Did anyone notice the absent of Simon Pegg in the trailer, just one quick shot. I guess they've stopped trying to market the film with him since his last film bombed.

I heart me some Trek - seriously, if it's not Original or DS9, I'm all over it but I have some serious issues with this trailer. Not only am I not buying the characters, the music is annoying as hell. It sounds all epic and yet the visuals don't match it. And Bana, I love me some Bana but did they have to go and give him a line stolen directly out of "Serenity"? Seriously? That's the best they can do?

The visuals look nice and I particularly love the look of the planet being sucked into itself (black holes baby!) but overall, this was "meh". Will I see it: hell yeah but I'm really disappointed by this trailer.
