There was a book series in the early 90s that I read in my early childhood called My Teacher is an Alien where that very thing happened. There was nothing I wanted more than to be abducted in the night and asked to save the galaxy.

but i’d be lying if i didn’t say that this was some cheese i wanted on my crackers. this child in me is definitely looking forward to this as silly as it may be. i am a space nut. i dream of this shit, and as a kid used to daydream like some aliens would sweep me off this planet and take me on an intergalactic mission like these.

This trailer doesn’t do much for me personally, although they are definitely targeting a broader audience with it, that much is obvious.

Andrew, I didn’t watch much of that show but I think that’s what it was about.

Also, I did see the borg episode. It wasn’t the first encounter, it was some lame ass time travel bullshit.

The Mirror, Mirror episode of Enterprise is awesome! Because it’s emulating original Star Trek. Miniskirts, giant lizards, I’m just say there were tribbles cause I don’t remember.

All the original cast movies are good. 6 is awesome, followed by 2. 3 and 1 are underrated. And Star Trek 5, directed by William Shatner is not very good but I love it.

All the Next Gen movies are lame with First Contact being at least watchable.

I’ve meant to get into TNG, but she suggested DS9 first (I think she picked that one based on my being a BSG/Babylon-5/Farscape fan – Andrew’ll have to verify if that’s a likely recommendation). I watched the first season of DS9 and liked it quite a lot, but then school got in the way and she moved to Scotland, so I haven’t finished it yet. (And I still need to finish B5, too…I gotta make sci-fi my priority this summer, I think.)

And I never have, nor would I ever, go to a ST convention.

As for TNG movies:
Generations = alright
First Contact = great
Insurrection = shit
Nemesis = alright

Yes, definitely go with TNG, although the first two seasons are a bit rough (those uniforms! ugh!). Then they switch doctors for season 3, which I didn’t like. After that, the episodes get more interesting and the character development is fleshed out a little better. Though the episodes with the kid form Family Ties as Whorf’s son are pretty brutal.

My favorite episodes were all the “what if” episodes or unexplainable ones. There’s one where the episode starts with the Enterprise explodes. There’s one where they all get hooked on a video game. Any episode with “Q” in it is great fun and of course The Borg are futile to resist.

And oops, almost forgot entirely about Enterprise. Never even saw one episode of that.

When I first started playing it, I had to unmute my computer, and for about the first 30 seconds I was trying to figure out why Star Trek had a Bollywood soundtrack. Yeah, iTunes had been playing all night with the computer on mute. D’oh.

And Marina, heh, TOS and DS9 are the only Star Treks I’ve seen any of. Maybe I should expand?

The clincher is whether or not Star Trek: Rebooted will be just another genre picture, or whether it will actually have a brain to go with its over-manicured new body, and adrenaline pumping heart.

The visuals look nice and I particularly love the look of the planet being sucked into itself (black holes baby!) but overall, this was “meh”. Will I see it: hell yeah but I’m really disappointed by this trailer.
