• Movie Quote Quiz #7

Alright smart-asses, I promised I’d be back with something a little more challenging. If you have to use the IMDb, then so be it. Just be sure to write to your significant other to tell them that not only are you unwise, but also a coward. Just click the icons below and take a listen to each of the the mp3s and then guess which movie you’re hearing. In theory they should get more difficult as you move through quotes 1-5.

Place your answers in the comment section and good luck!
To the winner goes a YouTube lapdance from Marilyn Monroe.

  1. Henrik says:

    2. Thirteen Days
    3. The Wind That Shakes The Barley

    Both very good films.

  2. Goon says:

    1. Working Girl
    2. Thirteen Days
    3. ?
    4. ?, but I know when someone gets it i’m going to smack myself.
    5. Guessing based on the voice – Shadow Conspiracy?

  3. Henrik says:

I highly recommend The wind that shakes the barley Goon. It’s depiction of terrorism is as complex and nuanced as Do the right thing’s depiction of race relations.

    • Andrew James says:

Correct so far (I’ll be gone after this today so marina has the answers)

      1) Working Girl – Goon
      2) Thirteen Days – Henrik
      3) The Wind the Shakes the Barley – Henrik
      4)
      5)

      • Andrew James says:

And Henrik is right, WTSTB is an awesome movie. Well constructed, extremely well written and acted terrifically. It’s a Cannes winner, so you know its good.

  4. Henrik says:

Not necessarily, Dancer in the Dark won the Palme D’Or and that movie sucks ass. And Fahrenheit 9/11 won it, which is even worse, just horrible.

There are some good ones in there though… I recommend Pelle the Conqueror.

  5. Goon says:

“It’s depiction of terrorism is as complex and nuanced as Do the right thing’s depiction of race relations.”

I’ve heard this, I just havent got around to it. For some reason I was waiting for it to go on the 7 day cheaper rentals at the video store, and then when it did, THEY SOLD THEIR FUCKING COPY. typical.

I shouldnt complain, that store has given me a bevy of accidental treasures. They’re so inept, I bought the original Criterion release of Seven Samurai there for 5 bucks.

  6. Henrik says:

It’s worth more than 5 dollars. I think you’d appreciate it, even though you’re not into complexity :-P .

  7. ralph says:

what is wrong with Dancer in the Dark? isn’t the director even from your country?

  8. Henrik says:

Sure he is, but this is Trier at his worst. Characters exist only to push buttons, exploitation of everything human, no point or insight in sight (GETIT?). And most of the time – the singing – just boring as shit.

I actually only watched around 60% of it, before I went to do something else because I was so bored, and knew nothing was to be had from the experience, other than the confirmation of what I knew was going to happen.

  9. Rusty James says:

Dancer in the Dark is possibly my least favorite Von Trier. I haven’t seen it in a while though.

    • Andrew James says:

OK, long LONG day on a work field trip today and get home to find no one has guessed 4 or 5? 5 is really hard, but Kurt has mentioned #4 on many a podcast.

      Hints:
      #4 = white trash
#5 = fascism can come from both wings of political ideology

  10. swarez says:

    #4 Little Trip To Heaven
#5 No idea but that’s Donald Sutherland talking.

  11. Henrik says:

Are you looking forward to Antichrist Rusty? I’ve seen it, and given Trier and his crew my explicit thoughts. Hopefully they take my advice :P .

  12. swarez says:

You’ve seen it? Oh shit. How was it?

  13. Henrik says:

Well, I am financially responsible for losses if I discuss the content. Some asshole douchebag did write an email to aintitcool.com and reviwed it though, haven’t read it, but read snippets in news stories, sounds like an idiot who doesn’t know shit about anything, so I don’t recommend reading it.

I just wanted to show off a bit :-P .

  14. ralph says:

    well, color me impressed, henrik.

anyway, i know five. i know i have heard it but can’t think of what it is.

  15. Kurt Halfyard says:

#5 is an awesome bit of dialogue, but I can’t place the film.

  16. Andrew James says:

#5 is Land of the Blind with Donald Sutherland and Ralph Fiennes.
