Nice to see the Rue Morgue guys got a nod for BEST ANIMATED SHORT (The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow – Rodrigo Gudiño, Vincent Marcone, Marco Pecota), it’s a slick and interesting little short even if the ending is a bit too ‘boo!’

We just had our Canadas Top 10 Screening of Pontypool. Even on the third time, that movie is smashing! Here is hoping the multiplex gives it some love.

I’m actually surprised that Normal got so much love – I was under the impression that it was an 07 release. Ah well, it (hopefully) means more love for Bessai next year with “Mothers&Daughters”.

Canada’s Top 10 kicks off here on Feb. 27th with Pontypool (OMG. OMG. OMG. Colleen and I are beside ourselves) – the rest of the week is crammed full of Canadian films. Looking forward to it!

@Andrew – “Not too exciting when I’ve only heard of two of these nominations”

Now you know why AMPAS is scared shitless about this years Oscar TV ratings. Other than Slumdog & Button there is no public aware film to get average movie goers to turn up. Note that the broacast got its highest numbers during years when Lord of the Rings Part 3 and Titanic were in the running for best picture.

I’m aware of all of these films, but I haven’t seen a lot of them, many of them embody the worst ‘problems’ with Canadian cinema, but that is a subject I’m not going to delve into here.

I’m actually surprized that both Up The Yangtze and My Winnipeg are only nominated in the doc cat, both are phenomenal films in many respects.

Last year we have quite the abundance of English Language films but this one is more French dominate. Just more films to add to the too see list!

Yay for the Genies! It is a very different line up from last year, many more I’ve not even heard of.

When I saw all the nominations for Normal I totally thought of you Marina. I’m with ya on the Amal love, it is a fantastic film and it’s great to see it get so many nominations!

I’m kicking myself for missing some Canada’s Top Ten screenings last week for films like Ce qu’il faut pour vivre / The Necessities of Life.
