• Oscar Pool (Win a Free DVD)

Oscar PoolLast year I was bored and decided to run an Oscar Pool. I didn’t win but placed respectfully. This year I plan on winning. Have you seen too many movies and think you know how the Oscars work, if so then then Row Three is the place for you. Here is how it works:

Copy the entire list into the comments and delete all but the movie that is going to win for each category. I’ll post my picks right off the bat in the comments.

The prizes currently consist of one of three choices:

    • A DVD of your choice with a value of under $30 Canadian
    • Chunking Express DVD
    • Extras the complete series on DVD

You can only submit your list once so think it through. The person with the most correct choices wins unless there is a tie and then I will start at the top of the list of choices and the one person(s) who miss one of the of the categories will be knocked out. ie. if two people tie but one person gets Best Picture wrong that person is out. If both have that one right then whomever has Best Director wrong will be knocked out and so on down the list. If it is a complete tie all the way through then I will randomly pick. The writers for Row Three may enter but they are not eligible to win. In that case the prize goes to the person who doesn’t write for Row Three with the most correct choices.

You can enter right up until the start of the Oscars. I will lock the comments at that point.

Seeing how weak the best supporting actor category is this year, I think there should be no accusations that Heath Ledger didn’t earn his nomination. On other sites there has been a backlash towards his performance, and assumption that he got the nomination because he died, the pity award, but come on, he was far better than Brolin in Milk, Downey in Thunder, his only notable competition is the Hoffman.

  61. Goon says:

^those aren’t official or anything until the ContestMaster says so, I tallied these myself eager to check. the people who got closest were counted twice :P

  62. Kurt Halfyard says:

In case of tie, perhaps who got the most on the “Big 6″ – Actor, Picture, Director, Actress, Sup. Actor, Sup. Actress, Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay?

  63. Goon says:

Reed Hilton got the big ones, Geri did not.

  64. Geri says:

“The person with the most correct choices wins unless there is a tie and then I will start at the top of the list of choices and the one person(s) who miss one of the of the categories will be knocked out.”

I missed Best Actor so congrats to Reed Hilton! =) That’s cool, though, since I didn’t expect to win 2 years in a row. And I had a pretty good year guess-wise, since I managed to pick 19 out of the overall 24.

  65. John says:

I’ll post up all the results and get in touch with the winner by email once I’m back from a work trip on Wednesday. Thanks everyone for participating.

  66. _ram-jaane' says:

That’s cool. Been fun participating! :D

  67. Reed Hilton says:

Thanks, I didn’t expect to win but happy I did. It was fun to play.

  68. John Allison says:

Holy shite… Goon did my work for me. Should I be lazy and go through the work myself just to reconfirm what Goon has already done… :)

I’ll be contacting Reed by email once I confirm the numbers. The winners choice of prizes is a DVD of their choice for under $30 Canadian, Cunking Express DVD (Mike Rot will even sign this one for you :) ) or Extras the complete series on DVD which I’m sure if you asked Andrew would sign that DVD also. Why anyone would want Andrew’s or Mike’s signature is baffling to me but hey whatever floats your boat.
