Joaquin Phoenix says he has retired from acting to pursue a music career. We’ve all heard that news. I had noticed that Casey Affleck had been hanging around Phoenix everywhere he has showed up since. He was with him on the red carpet when Phoenix announced his retirement (saying “I’ve been through that, I’ve done it. It seems like it’s Casey’s time now”) during an extremely awkward quick interview. He’s been spotted around with him here and there, including at a club where Phoenix took the stage to freestyle rap.

Well, file this under “What in the wide world of sports?” It turns out, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Casey (who, remember, is married to Joaquin’s sister) is going to be directing a feature documentary on Phoenix’s new career as a rapper – and apparently, Phoenix (or Fee-Nix, Lil’ Joaq, whatever he decides to go by) is working on his first album with the daddy of puff himself, Sean Combs. He is going to be giving his first public performance tonight at an unspecified Las Vegas club, which Casey will be attending to begin filming.

Umm… first off. Huh? Second of all… huh? Thirdly… nevermind. That’s all I’ve got. I’m at a loss.

“Lil’ Joaq” – I like this. Lol.

This quitting acting thing I still say is bullshit. It’s some sort of stunt for a movie they’re doing. I’ll go out on a limb right now and see that this “doc” is not real.

He’s making way too big a of a deal out of quitting and being too obvious. He’ll be back in another Shyamalan film soon enough. You just wait and see.

They should just come out and admit they’re lovers. They’re doing a horrible job at keeping it secret. :P

Just in case anyone isn’t sure, I’m totally kidding. I had a weird dream last night where there was all kinds of backlash against me on this site for that comment. LOL. I had three weird dreams last night that I remember. Must have been something I ate. I also heard this story on the local news radio station last night. Yikes. I hate it when such ridiculous stories make mainstream news…

The thing is, I think that this is going to be much, much more interesting if this all turns out to be real. Joaquin is known for being eccentric and erratic.

My question is, if this is real, how and why Casey Affleck is sitting back and putting together a documentary about it all.

My guess is because Casey Affleck has no friends. Surely he must have SOMETHING better to do.

I think it’s fairly obvious that this was done for the “documentary”. I don’t really see Joaquin being a rapper.

    More rapper names for Joaquin:
    Joaq-about (pronounced: “walkabout” or “Joke-about”)
    Wat-chu-Joaqin’-about-Willis?
    Phoenix’ll-sticks

yea, Johnathan’s are better. Andrew is most likely right about the hoax doc. These types of things happen all the time, I wonder if it will ever see the light of day though…Mr. Phoenix’s career will likely rise from the ashes of this project one day though…ba-dum-dum. Try the Veal.

Oh man. Those are some poor skills the man has. Maybe he needs some pointers from Puffy.

His stage name should be Joaq-Phoe, pronounced Shaq-phoo.

The only thing I see coming out of Letterman these days are awkward interactions with him. (See also Nicole Kidman), but then again, Pheonix’s current performance art thingy is a no-win for any talkshow host.

i love the awkwardness on Letterman. Letterman is the best late night host out there. he is so quick and witty. sometimes he comes off as an asshole but that is part of his charm. you know?

used to hate him until about ’01 or ’02 then i saw his brilliance.
