Two years ago I had the great pleasure to meet the lovely Jewel Staite at a local “Serenity Now” Charity Screening. She was very gracious, speaking to all of the fans and when I got my turn, I had to ask her about upcoming projects. She mentioned this little horror film that she’d finished shooting titled The Tribe.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that this movie never existed. The film’s production blog was taken down in early 2007, no IMDb entry and there was no mention of the film until the trailer, which had originally been posted on that now defunct blog, re-appeared over the holidays.
Apparently the film does have a distributor though I’m hard pressed to get any details other than the old news that there will be a theatrical release, there’s little more to tell about the production other than to assure you that from what I remember from Jewel’s comments, it was not an easy shoot.
According to Cinemablend, the film features Staite, Justin Baldoni, Nikki Griffin, Kellan Lutz and Marc Bacher as a group of friends who are stranded on an island after a boat wreck. Sadly, their major worry is not how to get off the island but rather how to survive whoever or whatever is killing them. Pretty run of the mill stuff but I like Staite and would be willing to shell out money to see the local starlet on the big screen.
