If there is one horror film that I am anticipating mightily in 2009, it is Sean Ellis‘ The Broken. Lena Heady (Ripley’s Game, Merlin, Aberdeen) in the lead role, Ulrich Thompson and Richard Jenkins as supporting players and a very refined visual style which fluctuates from restrained to kinetic. Whether the the world needs an explicit horror version of The Double Life of Veronique, and that moment where Heady’s character recognizes her doppleganger in the SUV is a pretty much a direct homage to Krzysztof Kieslowski‘s film, it looks like we will be seeing it in (hopefully) early 2009.
