I love Brett’s approach to the subject – making the point that the traditional idea of “the audience” is changing. Just take a look at the millions of videos on YT and the constant mashups. It’s pretty mind boggling.

Never heard that song before. I like it. I shouldn’t, but I do.
I missed Girl Talk at Lolla this past summer. Upsetting, but of course there were a lot of bands I missed. It’s just the nature of the beast.
Club music isn’t typically my thing but these mixes are, as the kids say, “off the hook”. It’s an awesome album but hard to listen to in the background because every once in a while you hear a sample and say “shit! I haven’t heard that in years!”
Would love to go to a show.
The Girl Talk show here in Toronto (@ Kool Haus) looked pretty wild…
Anna got the DJ to play “Play Your Part” at my little sister’s wedding this summer. It emptied the dance floor. Stupid old people only wanted to dance to Chubbey Checker.
The truly amazing thing about GT’s live shows is that he mixes every thing LIVE. No premade samples at all, he is doing it all on the fly as the show is going on. On top of that he allows people on to the stage with him and they surround him and try and dance with him and touch while he is mixing. The guy is lapping the curve at this point.
In the interview Gaylor talks about how he came up with the idea to have GT at the core of the film after seeing a live show in Montreal where GT and the crowd basically became one – no stage and no distinction between artist and audience.
In RiP Gaylor has some great interview footage of GT (aka Gregg Gillis) as well as his girl friend and parents. I can’t recall who, but at one point there’s a comment from one of them that GT should keep his shirt on during his show. Of course, it’s immediately followed by footage of GT taking his shirt off
The energy at the shows looks amazing.
