• A Couple of Questions about the Site

Now that Row Three is a year old it is about time to think about the site once again. Now since I am the total web guru for the site and I alone have all the knowledge of the intricacies of HTML, CSS, Javascript and all that other fun techie stuff I could just go ahead and create what I feel like and everyone would just have to come along for the ride. There are only two problems with this though. First I think the previous sentence is a run on sentence, secondly I want everyone who makes Row Three great to have a say in what happens around here. That includes both the contributors and the readers.

So I have a few questions for you:

    • Does anyone use the Other Feeds page? I personally keep track of all my movie sites through RSS feeds on Netvibes so I never look at it. Based on what I can see in the stats no one would really miss this page if it did disappear.
    • You can register for the site and WordPress will keep track of your information so you don’t have to fill out the comment form each time. Every browser already does this so would people miss this feature if it were to disappear?
    • Does anyone find the animation for past reviews annoying or do you like it?
    • Do you ever browse through the old posts using the archives? Right now it just lists the months instead of every single post. A while back WordPress decided that we had too many posts and it stopped allowing us to list every post. Would you browse the archives more if we can figure out a way to list all the posts?
    • Do you ever use the search on the site? If not how come? If you do is there any way we could improve it?
    • Do you like the color scheme and overall design for Row Three? Our goal has always to been to create a somewhat different yet classy looking site. Do you think we achieve our goal?
    • Would you use a print version or a mobile version or Row Three?

Okay, so it is more than a couple of questions. If you have any other comments or suggestions please feel free to voice them. The community is what drives the site so I want to know your opinions. Of course I’ll probably still turn the site green, red and yellow with blinking links in the very near future but at least you’ll feel like you contributed :)

I didn’t know the Other Feeds page existed.

I haven’t and won’t register unless you make it mandatory in order to comment. And then I probably just wouldn’t comment. It’s not that much to fill in, and as you say, Firefox could remember it for me if I wanted it to.

I like the past review animation.

I haven’t browsed the archives. Bookmarking and searching is just easier.

I haven’t really used the search on the site, but it should definitely be there. I usually tend to just search in Google Reader if I’m looking for a specific older post.

I LOVE the design of the site. It’s one of the reasons I chose Row Three to keep reading when I was browsing through the LAMB list. The good writing/stories kept me, but it was the pleasing design that hooked me initially.

Why would you use a print version of a website? That kind of defeats the purpose. Mobile version – don’t know. I’m close to getting an iPhone, so it would depend on how good the site looks natively on the iPhone browser. :)

No complaints about the site at all for me. The biggest draw for me is that there are frequent valuable posts to read just about every day. Keep up the hard work, rowthree contributors!

  3. Feedback time, cool!

    - I don’t use the other feeds site, I use google reader. I’ll occasionally look through the link list on the sidebar or click through a comment url if I want to see what peopel are up to.
-I haven’t registered for the site, browser remembers personal info.. I think if you register you have option to be emailed if there are additional comments to a thread you commented on? That doesn’t appear when I just type in personal info.
    - I like the animation for past reviews!
    - I’d don’t browse through archives, I’d use search or just keep hitting ‘older posts’
    - Yes, I use search on the site – I’ll use it to read posts after I’ve seen a film previously reviewed/discussed that I didn’t read.
    - I like the colour scheme & design. Tres classy!
    - I wouldn’t use print (the comments are a lot of the draw, reading them and leaving them). Although haven’t the R3views printable would be kinda cool, because of all the different perspective.
    - I don’t have a mobile device so I wouldn’t use that!
    - Only other thing I would say is if the Reviews archive was alpha by film title would be easier to find stuff (although I just use cntl+f and type). It looks like it’s organzied by most recently posted?

    - I’m another one of those who didn’t realize the Other Feeds page existed. Kindas like it though.
    - Resubmiiting my info takes but a few moments. If the save feature disappeared, it wouldn’t kill me.
    - When I browse the archives, it’s usually because I’m looking for a specific review. Searching for such things is easy, no need to post all the old entires.
    - LOVE the design of the site. Well thought out, yet still simple. Great colour scheme with a clean layout. Don’t change a thing.

All in all, keep up the good work!
