A Bunch of Photos of Sam Rockwell in Moon

In the past, when speaking of Sam Rockwell, I’ve said such things as he is “one of the most talented actors working today,” “[on] the same level as Norton or Bale or DiCaprio,” and even “a young De Niro.” I figure if I say it enough, other people will just nod their head in agreement and subconsciously begin to agree.

He has a ton coming out in the next year, mostly smaller character-driven films that will spotlight his talent. The one I am looking forward to the most is Moon, a sort of Cast Away in space, about a helium mining contractor who signs a contract to mine on the moon in total isolation for three years. It’s directed by Duncan Jones, son of David Bowie, so its sure to be pretty zany.

I stumbled across an article on OWF which led me to Bloody Disgusting which has tons of photos up from the movie - and it looks rockin’! And really pretty. I want to make love to this movie and I hope you do too.

  1. You’ve totally sold me on this movie. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a dud like ‘Sunshine’ was. I had high hopes for that movie before I watched it and it petered out on me, even though I’m a Chris Evans fan-boy.

  3. Oh hell yes. nice find Jonathan, Hadn’t heard about his one until just now and like Linda, this is going on my heads up display.

Andy, other than being in space, why the comparison to Sunshine (which was not a dud - until the final 30 minutes)?

  4. Andrew,

Isn’t it obvious? All movies that take place in space are the same. Alien Resurrection and 2001: A Space Odyssey are practically the same movie.

Sam Rockwell is on my fanboy list, and has been since his turn in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. What that basically means is that I will see every film in which he is a star, so long as I am not disappointed. I’m looking forward to this, to be sure.

  6. Andrew, from the shots and the plot I get that same feel that ‘Sunshine’ had. Watch what isolation does to them. I think ‘Moon’ could be interesting because, quite frankly, I’ve never really thought about what living in space alone would do to you. ‘Sunshine’ was a good flick until the end of the movie. For me it just ran out of steam.

  7. Sort of reminds me of Silent Running, a great and overlooked 1972 film with Bruce Dern.
