• Will Spoofing Spoof Movies Possibly Work?

It might if that spoof of spoof movies stars Chevy Chase. Err… but when was the last time Chevy Chase did something worthwhile again? His very small part in 1998′s Dirty Work? Well, we’ll soon find out with the appropriately titled Not Another Not Another Movie, which will also co-stars Michael Madsen, Burt Reynolds, and Vinnie Jones. From THR:

Chase plays a studio head who quits his floundering company, leaving his ex-con sibling (Madsen) in charge. Soon their equally inept gangster friend (Jones) takes over and assigns a production assistant (David Leo Schultz) to direct a spoof of spoof movies. Reynolds plays an actor playing the director of the chaotic film within the film.

While Chase is the first fellow mentioned and he is first-billed on IMDb, am I to believe that this is just going to be another bit part consisting of 10-minutes of screen time since that is all he does anymore? I hope not, but it is too early to tell. I have always really enjoyed Chevy Chase, despite his lack of enthusiasm for doing anything at all the past 10+ years. Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Caddyshack, Fletch, and Three Amigos are enough to keep me hopeful that he will do something worthwhile one more time before he kicks the bucket.

It’s an interesting cast though and I wonder how relative unknown director and writer David Murphy managed to get them all on board.

On paper, the idea of making fun of these terrible spoof movies by spoofing them is so confusing that it one might think it is long overdue. But if in the process of spoofing bad spoof movies, you make a bad spoof movie, are you not even more guilty of polluting our world with this dreck?

I will try to give director/writer/producer David Murphy the benefit of the doubt, since I have absolutely no idea who this guy is, and he could be the next brilliant comedic genius to grace Hollywood. I mean, he convinced Chevy Chase, Michael Madsen, and Burt Reynolds to do this. That has to mean, uh, something, right?

Fun fact I learned today: Chevy Chase was offered the role of Lester Burnham in American Beauty but turned it down, a part that then went to Kevin Spacey who went on to win an Oscar for it.

I don’t know if it will work. I mean, how do you spoof a spoof?

Chevy Chase hasn’t been funny since he stopped doing blow. I heard through the grapevine that he doesn’t remember a moment of filming during ‘Caddyshack’.

I have a weird thing for Burt Reynolds, I mean I even got him as the voice on my GPS. I got it from http://www.navtones.com that does celebrity voices for GPS. I love it! I also got Mr. T and Kim Cattrall but for some reason I keep going back to Burt!

Can’t wait for the spoof movie. I hope Burt grows the biggest mustache ever!!!
