Though not as much around here, a lot has been said lately about Danny Boyle’s new film Slumdog Millionaire (our review). The story of a young man who wins the Hindi version of “Who Wants to be A Millionaire?” and is then questioned as to how he knows some of the answers, Boyle’s film is proving to be an audience splitter. Though it has won numerous awards and a load of viewer appreciation, I’ve heard a few reviewers say that the film is a bit divisive in how it plays out Jamal’s story and though what I’ve heard doesn’t exactly sound ground breaking, I am always curious about a film that divides viewers, especially a film from Boyle, a director that has never made the same film twice and over his career has proven that he can take on almost any story and style.
The film didn’t make a festival stop in Vancouver though it does open in a few short weeks in limited release, no doubt in hopes of a couple of Oscar nominations but our first glimpse at the film comes care of the London Film Festival in the shape of a short teaser clip which is exciting and beautiful. Thanks to Variety’s Anne Thompson for the linkage.
