Evans, Fanning and Hounsou in Push Trailer
It’s like X-Men meets “Dark Angel” without the leather.
For Push, director Paul McGuigan has replaced Josh Hartnett with Chris Evans in hope of finally striking a cord with moviegoers. Though I liked bits of both Wicker Park and Lucky Number Slevin, McGuigan’s films are generally really flashy wihout much substance and sadly for him, roping in an actor as flat as Hartnett doesn’t help matters any. This time around, he’s heading the supernatural route with Evans and Dakota Fanning as individuals with superpowers in search of Camilla Belle, another individuals with special powers, who is on the run from Djimon Hounsou and the Agency, a group which (by my take at least) is trying to track them down and lock them up.
The film generated a little bit of buzz out of SDCC when they screened a bit of footage but if this trailer is any indication, it looks like McGuigan may have another dud on his hands. The effects are a little off and as much as I like Chris Evans, his voiceover here is painful. Here’s hoping that it’s just part of the trailer and is not present in the film. Sadly, though it doesn’t look promising, I’ll shell over my $13 unless (by some miracle or other supernatural happening) February brings some better looking releases.
Push opens February 6, 2009.
Trailer is tucked under the seat!
