It’s hard to believe that from the entire cast of “Dawson’s Creek”, sex pot Michelle Williams has risen as the most successful and, arguably, the most talented of bunch. Over the years, she has popped up in a load of small roles, aligning herself with talented actors and directors but it’s only been a few years since she’s started to make a splash as a lead. Call it good career planning but Ms. Williams has worked herself into the radar via small roles and I, for one, really appreciate that.
One of the films gaining a lot of attention at film festivals is Wendy and Lucy from acclaimed Old Joy director Kelly Reichardt. The film about a young woman’s struggles en route to Alaska is gaining a lot of attention for Williams but until that makes the release rounds she has another, bigger film breaking waves in the UK. Incendiary is based on a novel and stars Williams as an adulterous woman whose life is torn apart when her husband and son are killed in a suicide bombing at a football match.
If this were any other actress, I likely wouldn’t pay much attention but Williams has impressed in the past and I’m very curious to see her take the lead eventhough I’m not quite sure about this particular film. Directed by BBC documentary filmmaker Sharon Maguire, it does look good and I’m curious to see what Williams, Ewan McGregor and the new Mr. Darcy Matthew Macfadyen have to offer (trailer suggests good performances) but I’m not sure if the subject matter is going to sit well with the general public.
I assume that if Incendiary does well in the UK, it will eventually see the light of day in the US. We’ll have to wait and see but for those living in the UK, the film opens on October 24th.
Trailer is tucked under the seat!

She’s a great actress and I wish her much success.
I actually blogged about her not that long ago.

Great little article Missy. And thanks for the recommendation of “Me Without You”. It’s one I haven’t seen but will have to track down.
