The Unborn Gets a Trailer

David Goyer’s (Blade: Trinity, The Invisible) The Unborn sounded pretty unspectacular when I first heard about it. Whether you think it looks promising or not after this trailer depends on what you find frightening, but to me, this looks just like all of those American ripoffs of Japanese horror flicks. Children being creepy. Human bodies bending in impossible ways. A lot of “BOO” scares. Goyer hasn’t really impressed as a director, but he does have some writing cred, with his hands on the likes of Batman Begins, Dark City, and the first two Blade movies. Seeing as he didn’t write the last two movies he directed and he wrote this one, maybe we should give him a little more of a chance.

Plus, the only reason this interests me whatsoever, Gary Oldman is co-starring as a priest trying to help the young possessed woman, played by the beautiful Odette Yustman.

I bet this will be far more worthwhile than the likes of The Ring or The Grudge, but you more than likely will not see me waiting eagerly in line for this on January 9th, even with my undying loyalty to Oldman.

What do you think? Yes, no, maybe so? And why doesn’t Oldman ever take on lead roles anymore? Most directors would die to have someone as flawless of an actor as him, I would think.

  1. 1. “From Producer Michael Bay” made me laugh. I know that wasn’t intended but I couldn’t help myself.

    2. I like Goyer. I’m still hopeful he’ll pull off another “Dark City” in his career.

    3. This looks fairly run of the mill.

    4. I do like the gimmicky silent bits in the trailer.

    5. Some of the visuals are direct rip-offs from other movies though they do look updated. I get everything from The Exorcist to Constantine.

    6. The chick looks like Megan Fox.

    7. I’ll still give it a chance. It may surprise.

  4. Oldman is actually playing a Rabbi in this one.
The trailer starts out rather uninteresting but the later parts of it are really good IMO. I really dig the freaky imagery and it looks like it packs a punch or two.
