This has “Sundance darling” written all over it. Quirky characters, weird job, dramatic and funny; it’s all here. If this was any other movie, I wouldn’t even bother with a look at the trailer but Sunshine Cleaning happens to feature two of my favourite young actresses.
This is the all around women’s film. Written by Megan Holley, directed by Christine Jeffs and starring Amy Adams and Emily Blunt in lead roles, it’s the story of two sisters in need of money. The duo discovers that there’s a whole lot of it to be made cleaning crime scenes and so Sunshine Cleaning is born.
Although the film had good buzz going into Sundance, it wasn’t picked up for distribution until late in the festival which, as Karina Longworth at Spout Blog speculates, may have something to do with the amount of gore in the film (which is certainly hinted at in the trailer).
I’m not impressed by this trailer and if this featured any other two actresses, I’d likely give it a pass but I can’t say no to Adams and Blunt together. Though Overture has released the trailer, no word yet on the distribution date.
Trailer is tucked under the seat!

The amount of cuteness in this movie is overwhelming. Imagine if Zooey Deschanel were in this too!
Dear god. It would be too much to bear. Though I think Andrew might be up for that…
Throw in Shannyn Sossamon too, she’s spunky.
The movie can end in a full on mud-wrestling match. Box Office Gold I tell ya. GOLD!
I like Sossamon. She’s mostly mediocre in bad movies but she’s one I like.
I’ve been dying to see this since I first heard about it at Sundance. Largely, yeah, because of the Adams-Blunt pairing, which is full of win. But I also like quirky cutesy Sundancy things a lot, too. Thanks for posting the trailer, Marina!
I still haven’t seen WRISTCUTTERS: A LOVE STORY.
Oh and Sossamon has a tiny bit role in KISS KISS BANG BANG as “pink haired girl” – which is funny because I don’t think I recognized her there when I saw the film.
Kurt, you’re married. You made your compromise. Aren’t you cheating yourself by making comments like “Throw in Shannyn Sossamon too, she’s spunky.”? Seems weird to me to get involved and committed without ruling out all other possibilites.
I love Amy Adams. But I also love Zooey Deschanel. My brain could never commit itself to anything. Especially when it comes to women.
I’m not sure who is being facetious Henrik, you or me?
I guess women just confuse me more than anything else.
I guess women just confuse me more than anything else.
You said it. And heaven help you if you want to see a movie on their birthday! But screw it, I’m going to see BLINDNESS.
Concerning the trailer, this looks like another period piece in the vein of Little Miss Sunshine and Lars and the Real Girl and Juno. Note the female director, directing a female script about two females.
Another trailer has popped up:
Yeah, it looks kind of… cute. Cute in a good way though. Hopefully Steve Zahn has a bigger part than his bit in the trailer. That guy is too funny. The trailer is good until about the 3/4 mark when it gets ultra-cheesy and melodramatic. Is that “The Decemberists?” ugh.
