Perfect review Marina. I agree 100%. Fiennes was fabulous with the "less is more" approach. Without saying too much he conveys a lot of messages. I'm glad it ended when it ended. Another 20 minutes and my enjoyment would have dropped significantly. Great costume drama and I agree that I wish they'd explored the political side of things a bit more. Ah well. A good film, but I'd take Atonement or P&P over this any day of the week. It did give me a craving for some good wine though. Which I am now paying for the next day.
