Confessions of a Shopaholic Movie StillHold the tomatoes for a minute alright? Just give me a moment to explain myself.

I’ve read the books (most of them I think) and if I remember right, they weren’t that acclaimed though they were a load of fun to read. The basics of Confessions of a Shopaholic: Rebecca Bloomwood is addicted to shopping and credit cards are her demise. She over spends, lies about over spending, falls for a guy with money, and generally just gets herself into all kids of trouble.

I knew this wasn’t going to go well. The story lends itself to a movie if all you care about is the orgy of designer fashions and over spending and though author Sophie Kinsella tried to infuse some semblance of a “message” into her novels they were just floss. Fun floss but just floss and the movie looks about the same: colourful and over dramatic. That said, they just had to go and cast Hugh Dancy as the love interest Luke Brandon. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m jumping at the bit to see it because this trailer doesn’t suggest anything great, but I’m more inclined to do so because of Dancy. Bugger.

Confessions of a Shopaholic opens February 13th. Just in time to suck the boys in for Valentines Day. Good god I feel bad for the men.

Trailer is tucked under the seat.

  1. This looks like the kind of movie my retired 66-year-old mom would go see with her best friend. Worse, it looks like the kind of movie she’d get on DVD and make ME watch with her during a visit. No thanks, not interested.

  2. It’s weird, I know it’s not going to be good and I’m not looking forward to it but something about the fact that it’s based on a book I once enjoyed has a pull for me. I hope something else opens that weekend otherwise, I fear that I’ll go and see it – even against my better judgment.

And welcome to Row Three Kimberly!
