Caught Transsiberian last night. I guess I liked it, but didn't love it. The external/aerial shots of the train were big highlights. Mortimer is pretty great too. Harrelson was a strange character though.

Oddly enough, I liked the "building up" portions of the story a lot more than the more fast paced parts towards the end. But even these parts that I liked didn't feel quite right for some reason. It was all just a bit unbelievable and frustrating. The characters didn't really seem to behave like people in those situations would behave. Like they didn't have much intelligence or something. Or they were just acting weird to act weird. Definitely a picture worth revisiting though.

Ben Kingsley speaks Russian?

To clarify, neither of Coixet's previous English language films are perfect but there's a reason they've attracted the actors involved - namely excellent scripts. The one thing they both have in common are excellent performances. "My Life Without Me" is a surprisingly uplifting movie about death and yeah, it's rattled with cliches but it's well directed and the acting from Polley raises it well above average. "The Secret Life of Words" is much more depressing but it's a completely unexpected, emotionally charged film about people stuck on an oil rig of all things. Again, excellent performances from Polley and Roth.

Still no "Transsiberian" here. *sigh*

Forgot to mention that this director's cut of Brotherhood of the Wolf has over 40 minutes of additional footage placed back into the movie. More cinematic beauty and more naked Belucci hopefully. ;)
