That looks great, Kurt. I've ordered it. Thanks for the recommendation!

And, uh, for the rercord, when I looked it up on Amazon, right below it in the search results these Kindle results came up:

Brother's Big Cock - Brother Sister Sex Stories

My Husband, His Sister, and Me

There's a market for this?!

Jonathan, you must find a copy of THE SISTERS BROTHERS immediately, it's a great Western in the vein of BLOOD MERIDIAN, but not as bloody, and with a bit of an absurdist sense of humour at times. An excellent read, and it'd be a great subject for a Coen Brothers film, if they hadn't already done NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, and TRUE GRIT already.

Actually, now that I think about it, it's kind of like the BREAKING BAD of western stories. A neat chemistry angle and a lot of interesting characters and situations.

What a great topic. I still stand by my JGL in a Rabbit, Run adaptation. That was 2008, but he looks young enough he could still easily pull off the part of a 26 year old. Question is, he'd have to shed a bit of the quirky nice guy persona he's embraced these past few years and channel his Manic and Brick personas a bit more.

Other books I've read lately I'd love to see adapted: Coal Black Horse by Robert Olmstead (gritty Civil War coming of age novel), The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (the next big family epic!), Teacher Man by Frank McCourt (how about more not-so-cheesy, not-so-faux-inspirational films about teachers?), and Cormac McCarthy's Suttree (I might be kidding, because this might be impossible).

I'd love to see it set in Shanghai. Or even stranger, Dubai. Yea, a present setting for neuromancer would more or less work if they kept the 'body modification' down to a minimum. What they'd have to do in an adaptation of Neuromancer would be to emphasize the sci-fi and morality (the red pill vs. the blue pill dilemma at the end) and loose the techno-gadgets, but then again, the novel does end up in space at one point, I guess I would scrap that, and set the climax on earth.

Kurt- Would it be cool if they set Neuromancer in present day Tokyo, Hong Kong, or any other big industrial East Asian country? Make it look similar to Enter the Void. Therefore, the film would be the set in the future in reference to the book publications: making it meta. I thing it would be a pretty cool idea. Large parts of modern Tokyo already looks like the cyberpunk future envision in the 1980s.

China Meiville's PERDIDO ST. STATION. It runs out of gas in the final few chapters, but the build up to that point is ooooooh so damn good. The characters are complex and nuanced, and it is a real tribute to city/world building right down to the minutae. Meiville is playing travel guide as much as he is telling a story and he finds a darn good balance.

The Long Walk is still my favorite Stephen K.. er, Richard Bachman story (well, that and the Langoliers - which was an awful movie). I would love to see it brought to life on the big screen.

Have not read Chasm City, but I'm on the lookout for it as of now.

I'm still waiting with drool running down my chin for the Arthur C. Clarke story of Rendezvous with Rama. But I bet you a million dollars they ruin it.

Hah definitely... although there is such a time gap in between each novel, not sure if it would be a possibility.

I'm on board for Darabont to adapt The Long Walk.

I'd also love to see an adaptation of John Updike's Rabbit, Run with someone like Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking on the the role of the 26-year old dickhead main character.

hmmm need to check out Chasm City, sounds intriguing.

Never Let Me Go pulls back every chapter to reveal something of the larger context but kinda of like you were saying Kurt, without making it a full-blown twist, information is just leisurely supplied and I think a movie version would work for that. Wong Kar-Wai would be a perfect choice. Its a fairly original take on the concept and nowadays hollywood could use something like this to awaken the dormant imagination.

Some things probably shouldn't be adapted. I can understand Alan Moore's disdain for any movie adaptation of Watchmen, I just do not see how you get it to work without entirely changing into some quasi-serious Mystery Men.
