• Brotherhood of the Wolf Gets Director’s Cut

Brotherhood of the Wolf DVD CoverI clearly remember renting Brotherhood of the Wolf a few years back but for the life of me, I remember nothing of the film other than a lot of rain. Not sure why but at the time of viewing, it simply didn’t appeal to me though over the years, it has repeatedly come up in conversation and I’ve been meaning to catch up with it to see what I had blotted out of my mind. It looks like the time for the revisit may be coming sooner rather than later.

The folks at Horror Movies have news that a new version of the film is on the horizon and will be released on August 26th. Included in the two disc edition will be:

    • DELETED SCENES: Watch over 40 minutes of additional footage from the film.
    • MAKING OF BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF: THE GUTS OF THE BEAST: Explore the creation of the movie from its unlikely genesis to the breathtaking fight scenes and daring digital effects.
    • DOCUMENTARY: Go on-location with the cast and crew as they deal with everything from fight choreography to costume decisions and weather challenges.
    • THE LEGEND: Uncover the chilling historical facts behind the legend of the vicious Gévaudan Beast.
    • STORYBOARDS: See extensive storyboard galleries from some of the film’s most memorable scenes.
    • THEATRICAL TRAILER: Watch the theatrical trailer from the film.

To sweeten the pot, Amazon has the DVD listed at the low price of $19.98 or $16.99 for pre-orders.

Just for fun, I’ve tucked the trailer under the seat!

MMmmm. 40 more minutes of that cinematography? I’ll buy that for a dollar (or 20). It’s so sad director went from this to Silent Hill.

I haven’t seen BOTW in a very long time. I’d say it was about time for a re-visit, and what better way than on an extended cut.

Man, this is cool news — thanks!

  3. John Allison says:

hmmm I already own the 3 disc set. It cost me $39.00 at the time. I bought it instead of the 2 disc one. I’ll have to see the footage before I decide if its worth the extra purchase.

holy shit… I had no idea it was the same director. I missed that totally. I would have actually rushed out to see Silent Hill at the time if I had known that.

gotta say we’re big fans of silent hill over at quiet earth. That film is bat shit crazy and visually outta this world. I suppose I understand why others wouldn’t think so but for my money I’d probably take SH over BOTW.

  5. Maurice says:

Wow, I love this movie. I really hope they will release a Region 2 DVD too.

  6. Andrew James says:

As a big fan of the game, I loved the first half of Silent Hill. The camera angles and creatures – and just the overall style and tone of the film – used were perfect. It takes a bit of a nosedive though for the final third or so. More characters = bad choice.

To be fair, BOTW starts to get a little less interesting towards the end as well.

  7. Andrew James says:

At John, there’s a 3 disc set? Shit, I didn’t even know there was a 2-disc set. I’m pretty sure mine is just the one disc. I’ll be selling it for the new one though.

  8. John Allison says:

I didn’t think there was a one disk version. The one I have is pretty sweet though so it really would be hard to justify upgrading… now if I had a blu-ray player I’d be tempted to switch this one up for an HD quality version.

  9. Marina Antunes says:

I didn’t realize that there had been previous 2 disc and 3 disc versions – I assumed it was just the one disc. I’ll be picking this up.

As for SH, I didn’t realize it was the same director. That movie had some GREAT moments but nothing will ever top the first time it goes dark and we hear the air raid siren. That scene made me cringe.

  10. swarez says:

Gans has a knack for opening films with a bang and then they kind of limp down during the second half. BHOTW had that problem and suffered from the fact that it took its sweet time to end. It was way too long.
I got the French 3 disc version when it first came out in a leather bond book, unsubtitled unfortunately. I later for the 3 disc Canadian release.
My favorite of his is Crying Freeman though, great action scenes and overall style, even though it tends to get a little melodramatic.

  11. m says:

I’ve never seen the film, but it is one of my best friends’ faves.

Does the 3 disc set include the director’s cut or not?
