Not so long ago but in another lifetime, I’d heard that there was a rumour floating around Hollywood of Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor being in talks to create a film based on the concepts he came up with for “Year Zero”.
The wikipedia entry for the album is pretty heavy reading but mostly because of the promotional bits that went along with the album; pictures of a demolished Hollywood sign, clips of static and the appearance of strange graphics and messages, all pointing to a back-story loaded with invasion and doomsday imagery.
Nothing ever came of those initial discussions but it looks like all hope is not dead. Thanks to the folks at /Film for the heads up on news that Reznor recently met up with the folks at HBO in hopes of turning “Year Zero” not into a movie but into a two-year limited series which, Reznor says “I prefer that over a film.” So all hope is not yet dead and there is still a possibility that we will see the Reznor camp expand beyond music.
It’s no use in hiding it, I’m a fairly rabid NIN fan and I’ll pretty much watch/listen/buy anything Reznor is involved with so yeah, I’d be seeing this even if it was shit. Thankfully, it sounds like there may actually be something to get excited about. I’ll be delivering more details as soon as they are dispatched from the powers that be. Until then, check out this interesting video for “Survivalism”, one of the singles from “Year Zero”. Could this be a taste?

Mine’s on the brink. I’m sure as soon as the announcement is official, it too will explode.
