    Neuromancer One Sheet

Retro-futuristic and monochrome, this One Sheet for the upcoming William Gibson novel adaptation is a head turner. Yes, it looks more like a novel cover than movie marketing materials, but since it immediately is reminiscent of the body-horror pics of Shinya Tsukamoto, well, that is a fine thing!

Have to agree with the Quiet Earth boys, and Todd over at Twitch in that this one falls into the ‘unfilmable’ category. I love the novel, but still could not adequately envision many scenes in my head (even after multiple readings). And Hayden Christensen in the lead? I weep. Best of luck to first time feature director Joseph Kahn.

  1. I’m with you on this one, some books I just can’t imagine how they’d do it. I’d always imagine if they did make the film it would be with Keanu, either that was an old rumour of because he plays similar roles be they sucessfully (Matrix) or not (Johnny Mnemonic).

I may, however, revisit the book – which could be a good thing in it of itself!

I’m not sold on this project – not one bit – but I recently re-read the book and there’s definitely a cinematic story and potential for something totally brilliant. I think the same argument of it being unfilmable could be applied to almost all of Philip K. Dick’s stories. Reading them, I could never picture them on the screen yet, there they are and some of them aren’t just good – they’re great.

My fingers are crossed that this will be a good adaptation. Personally, I have a soft spot for Johnny Mnemonic – even if it does loose its way – it was a noble attempt at recreating Gibson’s visionary world, it just happened to come way too early. I have no doubt that could have been a much better adaptation were it being made today.

Bottom line – I’m definitely interested, just cautious.

I dig Johnny Mnemonic. It’s a guilty pleasure for the game and hammy supporting cast (Dolph Lundgren, Henry Rollins, Ice T, Udo Kier, and “Beat” Takeshi Kitano).

“I Want Room Service” is not quite as effictive as “I know Kung Fu”, but that was what was available in the cyberpunk film world at the time. We take what we can get.

  4. …My God, it’s full of stars!
