A little while back, Jonathan posted the first image of Josh Brolin as President Bush. It’s safe to say that that magazine cover caused as much controversy as the announcement that button pushing Oliver Stone was behind the film about the currently US president.
I’m tempted to think that this has disaster in the making written all over it. To begin with the film is about a president that isn’t only still alive, he’s still in power. To make matters worse, Stone hasn’t exactly been on a roll with his last few films. There’s a lot at stake here and frankly, this trailer doesn’t suggest that we’re in for anything more than initially expected: a collection of potshots at the current president. I have my issues with Bush but I’m not sure this is the best approach to the situation and though it could be fun to watch and I haven’t lost complete faith in Stone, this trailer doesn’t do anything for me.
W. opens on October 17th.

Yeah, probably a shit movie, but an impressive (although odd) cast. Scott Glen as Rumsfeld and Elizabeth Banks as LB. Strange indeed.
I don’t know, I sense a lot of irony in the trailer, which is promising, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part. Bush gets too much unneeded attention as it is. Aren’t we all a little sick of him and want him just to go away?
Awful looking, simply awful looking. I hope the film actually unravels cliches rather than uses them for a crutch. I know it is impossible to give depth in a trailer.
It would have been more amusing if Stone got Dana Carvey to do Senior Bush. As much as I love James Cromwell, I couldn’t buy him as the former president.
That’s what I mean by weird casting. I don’t really buy any of those actors in their role (at least going by the preview).
That literally looks like an SNL sketch with a bigger budget. Stone knows to make this now while there’s still (waning) interest in the subject. I mean, after all, no ones clamoring to make or see a movie of any other terrible presidents are they? You won’t be seeing “Hoover” for example.
A couple more amusing “W” posters
