Tron 2 Footage is HERE!

by Marina Antunes
July 26th, 2008

At some point earlier this year, it was announced that Disney was working on a 3D sequel to Tron. At the time, I thought someone had posted the story around these parts but doing a search, it looks like we skipped this one - may have something to do with the fact that it’s an unnecessary sequel.

The talks of the project died down for a few weeks but it looks like it’s hot topic for conversation again. Turns out the Disney folks and Jeff Bridges (yeah, he’s back for number two) showed up at Comic-Con with some new footage from the film which, by all accounts, blew the crowd away. Now Richard over at Filmstalker has found a clip of the footage shown to the crowd. It’s a bit crooked and from far, far way with the occasional black out but the bits we see certainly suggest this could be good. I just hope they change the name because Tr2n is just plain dumb.

Update: Disney is apparently kicking ass at removing this everywhere. Here’s where I found it today. Probably will be down by this afternoon though:
Gizmododo (thanks to Ty Webb for the tip).

  1. Jesus…you have footage of TR2N, Jeff Bridges is back, while the footage isn’t amazing it’s better than nothing and all you’ve done is bitched!

    TR2N is dumb?!?…ok i’ll bite, compaired to what pray tell?!?…Tron 2? what’s the difference?

    Ah how about Tron 2.0…cause…yeah.

    Do us a favore next time, just post the damned video and be gone…your paragraph of pissing and moaning is annoying.

  2. The greatest. So excited. Had no idea this was even in the works. Time to watch the original. Any word on a release date?

    Comment by Big Scott — July 26, 2008 @ 2:24 pm

  3. Looks like the release date at the moment is 2011.

  4. Beebop, how is Tr2n pronounced, “pray tell?!?”

    Comment by stump — July 26, 2008 @ 11:31 pm

  5. @Stump

    Does it really matter?

    Answer: no it doesn’t…except for people like Marina (and yourself it seems) who can piss and moan about something so overwhelming trivial it’s sad.

    From what little information and footage we’ve recieved it looks like TR2N is going in the right direction, maybe with a darker atmosphere, but the hell with all that…let’s complain about the movie’s title.

    To answer your question, i’ll pronounce it Tron.

  6. Chalk David Fincher and company for starting another trend (see also opening credit sequence). But inserting the number into SEVEN (Se7en) was kinda dumb and with all the other films that do this, quite silly really. Tr2n has to be the silliest. I’m now going to pronounce it Trotwon (traut-wan).

    That being said, I’m not really interested in Twotwon at all. The original seems like a movie that does not in the least require a sequel. You know, other than the lucre.

  7. TR2N is a nod to internet speak:

    L33T=Leet
    TR2N=Tron

    This shouldn’t be this difficult for people to grasp.

    Anyways, i’m done…have fun griping about nonsense.

  8. Beebop. Interesting observation, but I’ve never heard of a 2 to represent an “o” as you say Tr2n=tron; and furthermore isn’t l33t speak, like sooo 2003? Hah. Pwned!!!11!!!

    Agreed that it’s non-sense, probably along the lines of doing a Tron 2 (and wow, if they are going for the silly l33t speak mentality with this one, even worse) rather than something conceptually new.

  9. Ricky Gervais!?

    Sean Connery!?

    One does not simply The Office and James Bond into Tron….

  10. Wow, is there any new footage or is that all from the original film? I saw the other trailer somewhere that you can hear the crowds excitement which was infectious.

    They seem to be going with the same visual aesthetic as the original film - which is interesting choice. Be cool to see how it develops.

  11. Post updated (again) with a link.

    Comment by Andrew James — July 28, 2008 @ 8:40 am

  12. Meh. It’s not that I’m not curious to see what comes of the sequel but that title is just trying too damned hard to be “cool”. Why NOT just Tron 2? The so-called “tech speak” doesn’t fly with me. Sorry.

    Comment by Marina Antunes — July 28, 2008 @ 10:10 am

  13. Yeah, what was wrong with Tron 2.0? It makes sense and have any movies used that jargon in their title yet? I still refer to Live Free or Die Hard as “Die Hard 4.0″
