by John Allison
July 22nd, 2008

No hints on this one for about an hour or so. I think its pretty obvious but then again it always seems obvious when you know what the movie is.

  4. Nicely done Jay. It is Black Christmas. All you non-Canadians need to go check this out. Its a true Canadian classic.

  5. Long live Bob Clark. Oh. Yea. Right. Ouch.

Seriously though, I second John’s recommendation on this fine Giallo/Slasher fusion-Prototype which predates John Carpenter’s Halloween by a couple years.

Some good POV camera work in here too.

And all you Canadians who haven’t seen BC, check it out too along with the even more obscure zombie Vietnam-soldier flick, “Death Dream”

Not-so-humble suggestions for further reading on the margins of Canadian Horror flicks and directors: http://twitchfilm.net/archives/009273.html

  6. I bought the DVD, but I’m waiting until December to watch it.

I was going to guess “Zodiac.”

  7. Nobody thought “Nightmare On Elm St”? Just add tongue.

  8. Death Dream is definitely worth checking out. A great companion piece with William Lustig’s ‘Uncle Sam’. (Written by Larry Cohen!)

  9. Can’t get enough….Of Larry Cohen.

Well, it doesn’t have the same ring to it as the intergalactic yogurt slogan, but you get the idea.

    mmmmm. Intergalactic Yogurt.

  10. Just looking at Cohen’s imdb page and apparently there’s an It’s Alive remake coming. The original is greatness. All of Cohen’s movies (at least the ones I’ve seen, the stuff, q, it’s alive trilogy, god told me to, maniac cop) are great for that matter.

  11. Hey Stump,

Is is your gravatar from Buckaroo Banzai?

  12. yeah, it’s perfect tommy.

  13. Sweet, I thought so but its been a while since I watched it so I wasn’t sure.

  14. It’s a shame W.D. Richter didn’t do more. Banzai and Big Trouble in Little China are both classics. He also co-wrote Home for the Holidays - it’s sappy but it’s watchable. I’ve never seen Stealth but I feel like it wouldn’t be a good defense of his filmic skills.
