Zack Snyder’s Watchmen Trailer

Watchmen Movie StillFor one reason or another, likely because everyone else and their mother is gushing about it, we haven’t posted anything on 300 director Zack Snyder’s much anticipated upcoming film Watchmen.

Based on the acclaimed graphic novel from Alan Moore (to this day the only graphic novel to have won a Hugo) the film stars a whole load of people that has me quite excited: Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Goode, (that’s quite the trio!) and Jackie Earle Haley among a load of others.

I had to read the wiki entry for the book to get a gist for what was going on because the trailer doesn’t give us non-fans much. What I can gleam from it all is that the story takes place in an alternative history United States in which “a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own.”

The comic is considered to be quite groundbreaking and I’ve read and enjoyed some of Moore’s other works (notably “V for Vendetta” and “Top Ten”) but this one has continued to elude me, mostly because it always seems to be sold out at my local comic haunt. I’m just not hardcore enough to order it or ask them to reserve me a copy.

Thanks to Devin at CHUD for the tip, the trailer is up over at Empire. It’s gorgeous, I give it that, but it’s also slightly mystifying. I have no idea what’s going on. I may have to break down and order that book after all.

Watchmen opens March 6, 2009.

You can get it at the library. Worth the read.

This trailer is shitty though. The music is dreadful. Obviously Rorschach is just paper with paint on it, completely ruining what made his costume different from any hobo, and his voice sounds horrible.

I didn't like 300 much at all either. Zack Snyder is about as adolescent as you can get it seems, and it's a shame that Watchmen is becoming a movie at all, let alone being directed by this dipshit.

The look of the film is far too slick for my liking. The comic is as somber and almost depressing at times with grime in every frame, except of course Ozymidas's place.

But I'm interested in seeing what he's pulled off.

Wow. That trailer is simply awesome. Love the pumpkins (?) song. Love the one line of dialogue, and I love the '2nd tier' look of characters. Colour me impressed.

(And this is someone who had a pretty strong dislike of 300 and everything outside of the beginning 15 minutes of Dawn of the Dead '04.)

Snyder may just pull this one off.

I don't know the world at all but pretty 'familiar' on a bunch of levels with the characters, effects and stylings. But, I almost always give superhero movies a chance!

When I think about it. This trailer is almost exactly like the 300 trailer.

And the trailer for 300 wasn't too bad. I like the urban setting and the 'blue men' in this one though. I like the overall aesthetic.

The 300 trailer had better music. This music is like what Frank Miller probably likes to have sex to. I guess Zack Snyder as well.

I cant trust by the trailer, simply because of 300. I disagree about the music though, this is the alternate version of the End is the Beginning is the End (known as the Beginning is the ENd is the Beginning) which was actually originally on the Batman Forever soundtrack. Weird choice, but im fine with it.

I was just going to say that Goon that this sort of puts more weight to my thinking that Zack is taking shots at superhero movies, with the Schumacher like costumes, by using the song from Batman and Robin.

Love the pumpkins (?) song.

It's the theme song to Batman & Robin. They might as well have had Seal squaking throughout the damn trailer.

I like the urban setting and the ‘blue men’ in this one though.

And in a year I wait with baited breath for Kurt's rant on how Watchmen ripped off The Blue Man Group.
