First Full Length Twilight Trailer
Perhaps I’m not the best person to be commenting on the new trailer for the upcoming teen vampire romance tale titled Twilight which is being directed by Catherine Hardwicke. I’m a big fan of the books and this movie could be the worst ever made and I’d still have a good time watching it.
Andrew’s already posted about the movie and I’ve posted a teaser and rather than gush over it like a school girl (I’ll save that for my personal blog), I’ll let you tear it to pieces.
And just so you know, I’ll be there for the midnight screening.
NOTE: Updated with new crisp trailer!

OMG i cannot wait! i can’t contain my excitement!!!!
thanks for the trailer!

Was this site linked to a Twilight fan page all of a sudden?
Comment by Swarez — July 17, 2008 @ 5:23 pm
Would not surprise me. A lot of site haven’t picked this one up yet. I’m just mildly obsessed.
It’s bound to be trash but I’ll love every second of it.

this looks really good! i wish they picked a better looking guy to play Edward. in the book, he is supposed to “take my breath away”(Bella). hes good looking i guess, but he sure doesn’t take my breath away.

this is going to be so amazing! i haven’t read the book, but my friends have and they are totally in-love with it. i might read the book after i see the movie. Emmet is damn sexy!

Good grief, who knew we had so many women reading this site?

Ome! I love this! Ive been trying 2 find this. its awesome!
Comment by Delaina — July 20, 2008 @ 11:57 am
Awesome, i cant wait for it to come out. why did they make Bella so pretty? shes supposed to be plain and normal… and Edward isn’t good looking enough. yeah, obsessed much… i mean, i like the books and all, but that a little over the top. and not many sites have this, i think its just Yahoo and this one. those are the ones i have found at least. her website too, but it just links it to yahoo.
but great books, and it better be a great movie.

Not to piss on the twilight parade, but I doubt it will be half as innovative or rich as LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. I suppose other than the teen-vamp angle, there probably isn’t much in common.
That being said, Kristen Stewart who plays the lead here has done good supporting work in Into the Wild, Zarthura and Undertow and was the little girl in David Finchers underrated PANIC ROOM. Anyone see the Pang Brothers slaughtered US debut “THE MESSENGERS?” - she stars in that one. While I do like the sunflower imagery, the troubled production-history and mangling of that project made me lose interest.

“Half as innovative or rich as LET THE RIGHT ONE IN”
And I haven’t seen either film but I don’t think “Twilight” is meant to be innovative - the story itself doesn’t have anything new to add to the vampire lore and beyond that, it’s just what it appears to be on the surface: a teen romance - she just happens to “fall in love” with a Vampire.
The real reason for the excitement, and the only reason I’m even curious about the project, is that the novels took me by surprise. The characters are interesting and rich and the story appeals to girlie sensibilities. This movie could suck and it’ll still make a whack of money.
I’m still not convinced this will be any good but I’m hopeful that Hardwicke and Stewart will pull off something at least a little memorable.

I liked “Thirteen” (although mainly due to Holly Hunter and Deborah Kara Unger’s performance), although I totally lost interest in director Catherine Hardwicke’s film choices afterwards. All that being said, the doc that her skater flick was based on, “Dogtown and Z-Boys” is a damn entertaining documentary.

Agreed that “Dogtown and Z-Boys” is much better than Hardwicke’s version but she has a real nack for teen friendly/oriented flicks with a bit of punch. It’s not all candy coated and soft as you’d expect for that audience and I admire that in her work. She knows her audience and she makes films that appeals to that audience without pandering to them.
I may not be in the “demographic” but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen (though I skipped “The Nativity Story).

@ “I doubt it will be half as innovative or rich as LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. ”
good grief you’re obnoxious.
Comment by Rusty James — July 25, 2008 @ 8:24 pm
Yessir. For every mainstream version (often) there is a less-marketing-machine smaller version. I don’t believe it is obnoxious to point this out. The two films have some basic structural elements in common.

And it doesn’t mean we (I) can’t be excited for both. “Let the Right One In” isn’t available until Aug. 2. Go figure, the same day the new installment in the “Twilight” series comes out. A double Vampire buy!

I wasn’t trying to knock Twilight (too hard anyway) so much as let a little mention get in for a smaller foreign film.

@ “I wasn’t trying to knock Twilight (too hard anyway) so much as let a little mention get in for a smaller foreign film.”
Yeah, but you went about it the wrong way. There’s no reason to dis the Twilight (have you even seen the film, or is this another one of those). Personally I’d never heard of the movie you recommended and it sounds interesting, but that doesn’t mean that the Twilight’s not worth being judged by it’s own merrits.
It’s one thing to compare two films disfavorably after you’ve seen them. It’s another thing entirely to scold fans of a vampire franchise because they’re not watching obscure Swedish films.
Personally I recommend Abel Ferrara’s Addiction, Larry Fessenden’s Habit, Claire Denis’ Trouble Everyday and the underrated Nic Cage movie Vampire’s Kiss.

@Rusty James,
Those movies you mentioned sound cool, especially Trouble Every Day. Sounds right up my street:P

Just finished (literally) reading twilight. The trailer shows way too much, oh my goodness. Loved the book and looking forward to the film even if it does look melodramatic. It’s true it’s not really new idea, and it’s completely Roswell + Buffy, but I love it all the same!
Comment by Shannon the Movie Moxie — July 27, 2008 @ 12:14 pm
@MovieMoxie - I just saw your tweet about the uncontrollable urge to finish. That was my problem too. It sucks you in (ha). True, the trailer gives away loads but does anyone really care? They’ve probably read the book cover-to-cover tons of times!
Comment by Marina Antunes — July 27, 2008 @ 12:31 pm
Haha, good point Marina! I’m sure the fanbase knows the story! I didn’t think of it from that perspective.
