A few weeks back I mused as to whether the upcoming Terminator Salvation film could reboot the franchise. I was hopeful but not completely sold and though the teaser for the new film is now online and looking pretty decent, I’m still not sold.
The trailer is heavily reminiscent of the trailer for Cloverfield – shaky cam, looks like it’s cut together from handheld footage, destruction everywhere – and I was about to moan about how it was cut together from B-roll footage since we don’t get to see any of the stars but lo-and-behold, there pops Christian Bale. It’s only for a second but he’s in there.
I’m sold.
UPDATED with working, good quality trailer!

Why is this no longer available? Anybody have a new link?
I’m working on it right now!
Fricking Sweeeet!!
Sorry to steal a bit of your thunder Marina, but I just swapped out your small Quicktime file with a larger flv version.
Looks alright. Still too soon to judge it properly I guess. Would like to see this in the theater with a proper sound system.
@John BAH!
Everyone knows BIGGER = BETTER
or not.
I did not care for T3, but I will have to say this intrigues me because it’s all Apocalyptic and shit. And I’m a fan of Christian Bale.
can’t stand the Terminator films and I don’t think anything could get me to see any of them in the theater.
I actually quite liked Terminator 3 for two reasons, 1) it has the most wantonly gleeful love of destroying stuff – particularly the big chase sequence around the 1/2 way mark. 2) Claire Danes + Nick Stahl have good chemistry.
Sure they dropped the ball with the villian and overplayed the humour at times, but it was a worthy enough distraction!
On this trailer: The Bale-whisper is in there in full force. Henrik is probably having a conniption fit with it!
Like T2 alot and T3 has certain strengths to appreciate.
As for this trailer, it sort of looks like they may’ve done away with the one bad robot villain vs one robot hero. Maybe this is just John Connor in a world over-run by machines. COuld be interesting. What I liked best about T3 is the ending where the machines finally become self aware and how that happens (something about it is totally believable for me and I think may actually happen one day).
If this follows that road, I think this could be really kick ass. Love the rhythmic thing… duh duh duh.. duh duh.
The sound in this trailer is truly awesome. I’ve now watched it countless times with the sound up to eleven. Good stuff.
Kurt, I don’t expect McG to be the one who gets something interesting out of Christian Bale. If Herzog can’t do it, I wonder who can.
This trailer looks gay.
What’s conniption mean?
Why Christian Bale. Why.
Henrik, I assume you’re referring to Bale’s performance in Rescue Dawn. It’s funny that you feel that Bale’s performance wasn’t “interesting” in Rescue Dawn – I was thinking about Bale’s filmography and noting to myself that Bale doesn’t seem to have challenged himself as an actor, EXCEPT for his performance in Rescue Dawn. That’s the only Bale movie I’ve ever seen in which he shows any emotional range, at least since American Psycho.
Actually I should have known going in to Rescue Dawn that Christian Bale would have been told to be emotionally engaging. Herzog loved Klaus Kinski, notorious for ACTING, ACTING, ACTING at the expense of any realism. Kinski has a much more interesting face than Bale though, he is more reminiscent of a silent movie actor.
Didn’t Herzog get Nicolas Cage on board for his newest? Another guy who does the same thing – for some reason Nicolas Cage cracks me up. He’s just crazy and over-the-top and furious. He does sometimes get emotionally engaging though. One of the few who can do both I guess, and do both succesfully.
I have to concur that I like watching Nic Cage do what he does, whether dialed down in Leaving las Vegas and The Weatherman (and Lord of War) or dialed to “11″ in Raising Arizona and Face/Off.
“Christian Bale would have been told”
would NOT have been told.
