Hellboy 2: Viral Marketing Gone INSANE
I’m excited. Let me explain.
I was already excited to see Hellboy II: The Golden Army on Friday night but in preparation, lat night I re-watched the greatness that is Hellboy and now I’m even more excited. Forget the morons like the Cinemablend Podcast host Rafe Telsch who called Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film “mouthwash”. I usually like their show and in context, the comparison is not quite as bad as it sounds but it still rubbed me the wrong way. So you didn’t like Hancock (our review), and The Dark Knight is still a week away. Get over it. It’s no reason to be dissing on what is easily one of the films I’m most excited to see this summer.
The marketing people behind Hellboy 2 have dropped the ball on viral marketing and in my opinion, really made excellent use of the internet to spread the word. The result are a series of fantastic short videos each of which is sheer brilliance. I might be missing one or two, I’m not quite sure because I haven’t been following them as they have been released but below are the ones I tracked down. It looks like a lot of video, but each clip is no more than 30 seconds and each one is well worth your time.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army opens July 11th.
More goodness after the jump!
Chuck vs. Hellboy
Hellboy PSA
Hellboy vs American Gladiators
Hellboy Audition
And my favourite of the bunch…

Just can’t get enough of James Lipton saying “Booya”, LOL.

Well, I am looking forward to Hellboy II myself. I don’t care what anyone else says!

This was always the biggest ‘comic’ book adaptation film for this year in my book. I’m hoping that del Toro and company have fixed a lot of the flaws in the first one (a film I wanted to love, by ended up merely liking)

Wish I could say I liked the first one better, but I do love the characters in the movies, so I”ll be checking this one out as well. Love the PSAs.

I’m afraid that this will be a box office dud. Maybe it’s because the trailers haven’t gotten me that excited, elves and fairy creatures don’t do anything for me and I got a huge Harry Potter feeling when they show that fantasy marked place.
Hopefully I’m completely wrong about this. Reports have been good so far but most of them come from giddy fan boys who were at the Alamo screening with Del Toro and some of the cast. I never trust those reviews.
