• Sigourney Game for Another Alien?

Last I knew, Sigourney Weaver was pretty adamant in her refusal to do another sequel in the Alien franchise (“Let Ripley rest”). Now though, we get wind from Filmstalker that Weaver might be warming up to the idea – or just desperately in need of a big paycheck and career boost.

“I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea,” she recently told a British magazine. “Ridley is enthusiastic about it.”

    Re-he-heally? Enthusiastic? Hmm…

But I have to ask myself: do I really want another Alien movie? While Alien: Resurrection was very pretty to the visual sensory organs, co-starred the awesome Ron Perlman and even more awesome Dominique Pinon, and directed by one of my favorite directors, I thought it was a mind-numbingly bad movie. The Alien mythology has been destroyed even further by two depressingly awful Alien vs Predator flicks. Should this franchise just be left to rest – or should Weaver get another shot to bring Ripley back one more time to end it all the right way?

I think I’m one of the few people who actually likes Alien Resurrection. It’s a great film, looks awesome, has great action, fantastic character actors, Perlman, and one of the most underrated bad asses of film Michael Wincott.
It’s a comic book movie in a sense and I think people dislike it because it wavers away from the horror formula of the other films and it’s not what people expected.

Am I also the only one who would like to see an Alien story without Ripley? Sigourney was right to say that the character should be put to rest. Let someone else tackle the beast. I’m all for it.

  2. I liked all the Alien films, and in retrospect they seem even better. That is excluding the versus Predator ones of course!

Before this latest comment I did write about how she was saying the series and her character were dead and there was no way back from where AvP had taken it. She was pretty firm about that.

I’m not with you swarez on the non-Ripley film, not just yet. I would like to see one more and maybe do a “handover” in some way, but not a traditional Hollywood handover!!

I LOVE Alien Resurrection. I might be willing to go out on a limb and say it’s my favorite actually… maybe. I actually like them all except for part three which I hate.

Another Ripley movie? Sure, if like she says there’s a good idea and someone awesome directing to take over. I could see a Tony Scott or Neil Marshall doing it justice. Or how about Joe Dante or Timur Bakmembkov?

It is called the “empty pockets effect”. :) For me there are only two films in the Alien saga: Alien and Aliens.

@JBM – “empty pockets effect” oh how true. Seems that a big chunk of new movies are specifically designed to fill this mandate.
