I remember reading a while back that Scary Movie star Anna Faris was signed on to star as Linda Lovelace in a dramatic biopic about the woman who would star in Deep Throat during the 70s and become an international porn sensation only to become a leading anti-pornography crusader years later. Of course, I’m always intrigued by comedic-to-dramatic crossover actors, but Faris has done nothingto give me any sort of sense that she could pull it off. And with an inexperienced director on board in Matthew Wilder (his only credit is this years Your Name Here, the confusing, quasi-Philip K. Dick biopic), I shrugged the potential movie off.
Now though, MTV noted that Sam Rockwell has jumped aboard, which means I’m a little more interested. He will reportedly be playing one of Lovelace’s sleazy husbands. He generally picks very solid – or at least interesting – roles, so we’ll have to see how this thing plays out.
Of course, filming for this might begin as late as next summer, as Faris said they’re still looking to get the finances all figured out – I imagine a biopic dealing with porn from an unproven director starring an unproven lead actress isn’t an easy sell.

I agree that Anna Faris has dealt with some pretty crappy material in the past, she has proven to be a decent actress in dramatic films like Brokeback Mountain and Lost in Translation. Even though they were tiny roles and she mostly served as comic relief, I’m rooting for her in the genre crossover and I’m really looking forward to this one.
Faris is fabulous in LOST IN TRANSLATION and Lucky McKee’s MAY.
