Actually Smart?

There are rumblings (here, here, here) out there that TV show re-envisioning Get Smart is actually good. Surely it is better than the Pink Panther reboot (which for some reason this film from start to finish always reminded me of even though I never saw that Steve Martin vehicle). But, really, is it worth $10 and two hours of my time?

Perchance a family trip during a morning matinee - there is no sign of Kung Fu Fighting on the soundtrack and Wall*E is still a week away. Taking my impressionable kiddies out to see Young People Fucking may not be the wisest parental decision…

  1. This is one of those films that I will watch regardless of the reviews. :)

  2. I’m dreading the negative reviews with “Missed It By That Much” as the title. Erg.

  3. You aren’t going to watch Kung Fu Panda even though it is getting good reviews, yet you will for Get Smart? Yikes.

Also I rarely trust The Village Voice. They only like mainstream films that are utter shit.

Perhaps that despite positive Reviews for KFP still label it as a tad obnoxious and insensitive, and reviews of GS actually have it as a kinder, gentler disposition. You know, For Kids.

I’d rather have Toy Story over Shrek any day. I guess that is where I”m coming from on this one.

Can’t say that I’m Keen to Get Smart, all I can say is I’m actually surprised that Get Smart isn’t being pounded into the pavement like Love Guru. Expecting TV Show remakes to be 6 degrees of awful is par for the course, and for better or for worse, a film that doesn’t immediately get hisses and boos and/or laced is laced snark passes for good these days. Sad but True.

  5. I think Get Smart looks kinda cute. And well… it has The Rock in it :)

  6. Even though THE ROCK generally appears in crappy movies or guilty pleasures, I agree Shannon, I like to see him continually getting work. One day, perhaps he’ll have his ‘Punch Drunk Love’

  7. @ Shannon - Oh The Rock. Right on sister! ;)

And Kurt…YPF may be a little soft on the graphic sex stuff but yeah…probably not the best choice for the kiddies…
